KRich's Adventures
I just spent the last two days on a boat out in the ocean, scuba diving at the Great Barrier Reef! I couldn't be more excitied about this - so happy I did it and might officially be addicted to diving!
We left bright and early Tuesday morning. We boarded the Rum Runner and headed out to sea. On the way to the reef we had smooth sailing and even some Dolphins swimming along and jumpung beside the boat. It was a picturesque experience and great way to get jacked up about the trip. After about three hours on the water to get out to The Reef it was time to start diving! We did four dives the first day around the Thetford Reef. We were fortunate enough to see some awesome coral, tons of fish, and even some bigger/exciting stuff like turtles, lobster, and a few clown fish. We also did a night dive this evening before sleeping on the bow of the boat under the stars - such a wicked experience! Wednesday we had a rainy wake up with a burst of showers (ten minutes before our alarms were set to go off). We started the day with a dive before breakfast and then ended up staying at the same place for our last dive because the water was pretty rough and made it hard to navigate the reef. The trip back was a little choppy but we survived. Overall it was an amazing trip so some rough seas on the way home didn't dampen our spirits. Back in the city I checked into another hostel for my last night. this one was called Gilligan's and is a well known spot for young travellers. That evening I caught up with Sam and we headed out to watch the crowds at the hostel bar and make friends with some locals for the evening. I spent Thursday chillin out at the lagoon and catching up on sleep. Six dives in two days took a lot out of me but it was totally worth it. That evening I caught my flight back to Melbourne - happy to be heading back but pretty sad that I had to leave this awesome place so soon. I think this is one of those places that will stay high on my "return here" list. A couple of awesome dives just gave me a taste, got me excited, and left me wanting more. Until I can get back, I guess I'll just keep swimming....and being weird.- comments
