Three bro's with speedos and GoPros
Just spent four days doing fantastic scuba diving in Roatan! We stayed at the Buena Onda Hostel just outside of town and did our dives with Westend Divers. Both places were full of friendly faces and were absolutely awesome to deal with. Here's a run down of our time on the Island.
Day 1
Hot off the flight from Houston, we dumped our bags and headed to the dive shop. Without too much time to spare we checked our gear and hopped on a boat for a 2:30 dive. The site we did was called turtle crossing, and it was a fantastic introduction to the amazing reef. We saw two turtles and my first sting ray. Duncan had already been here for two weeks so he was basically a local, so afterwards he took us for Baleada's and and a couple beers at Sundowners to watch the sunset.
Day 2
After a decent sleep to recover from the travel, we got into a big day of diving. The battery on my GoPro was dead on the first trip, but we got wicked close to a big Moray Eel swimming along the reef and we got to see a Nurse Shark chilling out on the bottom catching some dinner. In the evening we had a few drinks and some old fashioned grilled cheeses before checking out a couple local spots for some evening shenanigans.
Day 3
Took a sleep in on Wednesday to recover from the night and have some treetop hammock time at the hostel. In the afternoon we did a fun dive where we all wore our speedos and took a Canada flag underwater. We got some awesome pictures!
Day 4
Thursday we did a dive called Bear's Den which had a little cave that we got to go in as well as another amazing swim through that opened up on the wall. It was super cool to swim around and explore! In the afternoon we did a dive site called Bikini Bottom. We got the speedos out again and we were so much fun that we convinced the whole group to do the dive in bikini bottoms - no wet suits for us! Dive was lots of fun; we got to see an Eagle Ray, a Turtle, and we had a big grouper who followed us around for most of the dive! In the evening we also did a night dive and got to see some amazing bioilluminescence as well as a squid and a spotted eel choking down on another fish.
Our last night was a blast, as you would expect. We had a campfire on the beach and hung out with a bunch of the friends that we've met in our first couple days here.
Looking forward to the next couple weeks and whatever kind of adventures and fun new people we run into along the way.
