The second half of the Chefs Tour de France!
The rest of our time in France was spent in Caen. We played in a tournament and took some time to visit some of the very interesting things in this area.
The tournament was quite different from any that I’ve ever played before. Games were two fifteen minute periods of run time, but we played eight of them over three days. The area was a pretty social place with a bbq always running and social dinners for all the players every night. We also checked out some of the local establishments, probably a little more than we should have, but we definitely made the most of our tour. We ended up 5th place in the tournament overall, and had a really great time. There was definitely some sore and broken bodies by the end of all those games though.
While we were there, there was also a large celebration for the 75th anniversary of D-Day. We took the opportunity to visit the Canadian War Memorial Cemetery as well as Juno Beach. There was a ton of Canadians around and bunch of interesting things happening. we saw a marching band from Burlington and a bunch of classic air planes cruising over the sites while we were there. It was definitely a super cool time to be here and visit.
Also, I would be remiss if I didn’t give a shout out to all the awesome people who hosted us and supported us in different ways. I think we had more fans in Caen than we have every had at a game in Toronto, and all the people who hosted us were far too nice. It was a fantastic visit, with great people, and definitely a memorable tourney.
Hopefully this isn’t the last Chefs tour, but also very much looking forward to a few days of rest and recovery.
