It still hasn't sunk it yet but I am finally in Australia!! My first stop is Melbourne, I should be staying here a few months, depending on how job hunting is going!

I arrived in Melbourne on friday evening (aussie time), after 23hours of flight. It took about 11 hours to fly to Hong Kong, where I had a 3 hour wait for my next 9hour flight to Melbourne. I wish I was able to leave the airport, was quite impressive seeing the sea, hills and small islands from it. Definitely on my to-do list sometime.

My friend from school, Joel, was there to pick me up at the airport. Thank god he's been there, he has been such a huge help! Got a lift by one of his friends over to where I am staying in shared accommodation with two students, one a real good friend of Joel, just on the outskirts of Melbourne centre so very useful.

Had my first tour of Melbourne city saturday with Joel. It's quite impressive I must say, a lot of huge buildings and very busy. Feels a bit like Europe so still not sinking in that I am on the other side of the world! Been round the centre and through some big shopping centres. Had the best hot chocolate I have ever tried in one of the shopping centres, was quite a busy little place, specialising in glutinous chocolate, was great!

Weather in Melbourne is quite cold, it is their winter after all! Nothing compared to European winter but still a bit of a shock after the heat wave we've been having!

Sunday was spent walking around Melbourne on my own, I went to the aquarium and wondered around the city, taking the free tourist tram which does a loop of the city, giving information about all the different locations. Also found out today, random info of the day, that peppers are called capsicum in australian!!

Today has been a superb day. Went down to the beach in Saint Kilda (not far from the centre, about 10 minutes on the tram), had a nice long stroll along the beach, still can't believe I live so close to the beach, so excited!! There I started talking with an old man who ended up showing me around St Kilda, telling me all the good places to go and explaining about the different places and buildings, very interesting! Even went for a drink and slice of cake in a traditional cake shop, delicious cake! All soo tempting! Evening I went back to by the beach onto the peer where, after dawn, several little penguins (Eudyptula minor) only about 40cm tall made their appearances. They were amazing to watch and spent ages just looking at them, hours I think. Some would come right next to you and there aren't even any barriers. Not many people, even many locals, know of their existence. There I met a french guy taking photos of the penguins and had a nice chat and travelled back to the centre together, he's off to Sydney tomorrow so couldn't really meet up again but was nice to chat to him.

All in all, having a superb time in Melbourne, need to start job hunting soon but hard when there is so much out there to see. More info soon, photos are up of my day in St Kildas and Melbourne Aquarium, a mini vid is hopefully on its way to show the penguins, even though the quality won't be too good as it was dark.

Me voila finalement en Australie!! Bien que ce ne soit pas encore rentré dans ma tête!! Mon premier arrêt est Melbourne, je devrais rester ici quelques temps mais cela dépend de mes recherches d'emploi.

Je suis arrivée à Melbourne vendredi soir (heure australienne), après 23 heures de vol! Ça a pris plus ou moins 11 heures pour arriver à Hong Kong, où j'ai eu une attente de 3 heures avant mon prochain vol de 9 heures jusqu'à Melbourne. J'aurais aimé pouvoir sortir de l'aéroport, c'était impressionnent de voir la mer, collines et ilots. C'est sur ma liste d'endroits à faire.

Mon ami d'école, Joel, étais venu me chercher à l'aéroport. Dieu sois loué qu'il soit là, il a été d'une aide précieuse! Un de ses amis nous a conduit jusqu'à la maison où je vais rester avec deux étudiants, un d'entre eux un très bon ami de Joel, juste dans la banlieue de Melbourne, qui est très pratique!

J'ai eu ma première visite de Melbourne hier avec Joel. C'est impressionnent je dois l'admettre, beaucoup de grands bâtiments et très animé. Ça ressemble un peu à l'Europe et ça ne m'a pas encore frappé que je suis de l'autre côté du monde! J'ai fait le tour du centre et suis allée à quelques centres commerciaux où, dans l'un d'eux, j'ai pu goûter au meilleur chocolat chaud que j'ai jamais eu! Un petit endroit très sympa où je dois retourner et je prendrai des photos!

Il fait froid à Melbourne, c'est leur hiver après tout! Rien en comparaison à l'hiver européen mais quand même un choc après la canicule que nous venons d'avoir!

Dimanche je me suis baladée toute seule autour du centre de Melbourne, je suis allée voir l'aquarium et ai pris le tram touristique gratuit qui fait le tour du centre, donnant des informations sur les différents endroits.

Aujourd'hui était une superbe journée. Je me suis promenée sur la plage à Saint Kilda (10 minutes par tram du centre), je n'arrive toujours pas à croire que j'habite si près de la plage!! Là bas j'ai commencé a parler avec un vieux monsieur australien qui m'a fait le tour de Saint Kilda, c'était très intéressant! Je suis même allée dans un petit 'cake shop' manger une bonne part de gâteau, une tradition à Melbourne. Délicieux! Le soir je suis retournée sur la plage, sur des rochers sur une passerelle on pouvait voir des pingouins!! Les pingouins (Eudyptula minor) faisaient seulement plus ou moins 40cm et mignons comme tout! Ils viennent tout près tous les soirs après une longue journée à la mer pêchant pour de la nourriture, j'étais scotchée à les regarder, il n'y avait aucune barrière, ils étaient libres et pas beaucoup de gens connaissent leur existence, mais pas beaucoup de locaux. Là bas j'ai rencontré un français qui prenait des photos, on a bien discuté et sommes rentrés en ville ensemble. Il part demain pour Sydney et va travailler quelques mois à Brisbane, c'était bien de pouvoir discuter un peu avec lui.

Je passe un super moment à Melbourne, je dois maintenant commencé sérieusement à chercher du travail, ça risque d'être dur de s'y mettre! Les photos de St Kilda et l'aquarium sont maintenant sur mon blog. Une vidéo devrait venir bientôt sur les pingouins mais malheureusement, puisqu'il faisait noir, ça n'a pas bien filmé.
