...gone fishin'
Things we learnt on our 3-day (dodgy) Mekong Delta "tour":
- There are officially 8million people living in Ho Chi Minh City. (unofficially about 11million), and 4million scooters driven there.
- The cheapest & most popular scooter (made in china) costs $300 to buy, and ultimately, much much more in repairs.
- The speed limit on the national road for bus drivers is determined by the amount of police patrolling it on any given time. (with the speed obviously being directly inversely proportional)
- Bus drivers that pass each other on the road use different signals to communicate/alert each other to the existence AND exact where abouts of said coppers.
- Depending on the exact modulation of your voice when you say it: Xin Chow (pronounced "sin chuhw") either means: a) "hello"; b)"Tofu" or c)"I'm begging for a bowl of soup". Which explains a LOT about the frequent bursts of complete hysteria following D and my attempts to be polite and say HI to Vietnamese people. (Thank goodness they have a sense of humour!)
- The most deeeeeeelishus food in the world can be bought from the floating market - this lady cooks it on her boat, and you can order a bowl of rice noodle soup (pho) with stir fry and fresh herbs, garlic, chili and mint, YUMMY!, all for 5000dong, that's about 21pence!!!!
- If, before you can say anything, said food lady leans over & rinses the ROTATING bowl and chopsticks for your soup in the dirty Mekong river, the same river where people wash their hair, their clothes, their dogs and pigs and yes, make toilet... just be polite, grin, say thankyou... and eat your deeee-lishus food like you aint-seen nuttin...
- Our immune systems are a LOT stronger than we gave them credit for! HA!
- Don't ever go on a tour with-out a written breakdown of the EXACT itinerary...
Love and kisses
