Espana!!!!
Hello all you crazy canucks braving the cold, snowy, windy weather back at home. I hear it is wonderful on that side of the globe and we are sorry that were missing it.
Sooooooo, it has been a short while since our last blog up in sunny England of all places, if you can believe that. We have been in Barcelona since Wednesday night and we have seen and done quite a bit, so there is too much to say in too little time.
But anyhoo, we flew into Spain on Wednesday night, only to realize after talking to a nice British bloke on the plane that we were an hour outside of Barcelona, as the plane flew to Girona. So we took the bus to Barcelona and got there at midnight not knowing a soul. A very big change from the comfort of Steve and Carol's lovely home outside Manchester. All turned out well though, as we got to the hostel fairly easily and it turned out to be a pretty decent place.
On Thursday we walked around the city looking at the sights. Barcelona is a beautiful city. Amazing architecture, a great beach, many places to go out, but it also has its fair share of shall we say "workers of the prositutial arts."
At night we stayed in the hostel and met some pretty cool people. We ended up meeting a guy from Brazil studying to be a doctor, 3 of the funniest Swedes ever, a Finnish girl and an American, 2 guys from Amsterdam and 2 Canadians from our neck of the woods. Justin will be happy to note that one of them used to work at Emmas Back porch. So if you can imagine a night out in Barcelona with all these people youd probably imagine it would one of the most memorable nights in quite some time. We didnt get to bed til 4 in the morning, and thats considered early from some in Barcelona.
Friday we had to go to a new hostel which wasnt so nice but cheap, so we made up for it with 0.56 euro beers, and thats Heikenen ones too. We also met a girl from Kent, England who was trying to find teaching work in Barcelona, and an American lad from good ole Wisconson.
We then went out to a place called the Marsella Bar, built in 1820 and considered the oldest bar in Barcelona. We tried some REAL absinthe and then went looking around for a new place, but couldnt find much as everything is spread out in the city. So all in all it was a decent night on Friday.
Now it is Saturday obviously, and we are headed to Madrid tonight to spend a night there and then we are hopefully headed to Portugal.
So hope all is well at home, and talk to everyone real soon.
