Wow I'm back in South Africa and it feels great apart from the extreme cold here! Damn winter! Oh well I checked BBC weather and we have the same temperature in winter here as you guys have in summer in Britain. I finally arrived after a 48 hour journey from Bangkok! I flew from Bangkok to Kualu Lumpur voted the best airport in the world and yes it was stunning. And the service of the Malaysians was outstandingly friendly, they actually seemed to really care about you instead of "I'm just saying this cas I have to". I then flew to Bombay which was where all my trouble started and I should have know, even if I was only in India for 4 hours it would turn into something exciting/scary/infuriating/unique experience that only India can offer. So I turned up at this ram shackle of an airport, the worst I've been to and was so confused already where to go for transfers as there wasn't even a sign. I told a man at immigration I had no visa and am going to Kenya. He was shocked as if he hadn't encountered a transit passenger yet. He took me to another man who took me to another man who eventually led me into a dingy, hot room where I was to sit for 3 hours and wait for my ticket as I handed over my passport thinking I would never see it again and would have to spend the rest of my life re-living the Tom Hanks movie the terminal, a great fear of mine. He returned after 3 hours and I was told I must identify my bag so he took me to another man who led me down stairs into the dark gallows of the airport, how exciting. The place where all the bags ended up coming off the conveyer belts to be loaded into metal holds. I soon found my bag, despite checking it all the way through to Joburg with the right baggage tags. Even though I found it I still had to wait half an hour sat with a bunch of men sleeping on newspapers on the floor for another man to walk me upstairs. By this point I thought I was sure I missed my flight but no, good old India, the flight was of course 3 hours delayed! Wahay. Joy of Joys. So a 6 hour flight to Kenya, I arrived pretty damn sure I missed my connecting to Joburg, even though I ran to the gate just in case. My episode at Nairboi airport involved two transit desks located at opposite sides of the airport and me having to traipse between them for a few hours. I finally got a lovely girl who got me on an SA flight to Joburg and changed my flight to Cape Town too. She also organised a transit visa and 5* hotel, luxury buffet and free transport for a 3 hour stay. It was defiantly worth it for the experience. Although, my hotel time was cut short after I was sat waiting in a van to the airport in the freezing cold for half an hour with a driver who wouldn't move and eventually told me to go in another van who's driver also sat there doing nothing told me to go in that van over there who finally took me to the hotel! An hour in the car park and changed vans three times! Ha Welcome to Africa I thought. Eventually I was driven back to the airport after my two hour stint at that ritzy hotel and got on a flight to Joburg and caught my connecting to Cape Town. 5 flights in 2 days, wow a new record.
