In horrific pain i took a 12 hour night bus to Sao Luis, which I couldn't sleep at all, so arrived in this beautiful place, totally exhausted and in so much pain was un real. The town was a world heritage site full of colonial style bright colored building, was gorgeous and it was the reggae capital of Brazil and there I was in this amazing place just crying in pain, was terrible. I managed to go out with Chris to get baby food but that was all I could handle, just wish I could have stayed for longer but we had to be out in the morning to some sand dunes further down the coast. Traveled down to a town called Barrahans and went on an excursion to see some sand dunes, I was expecting some dawlish warren type thing, we got there and it was just amazing, was like a white desert, these sand dunes were like 150ft high with lakes of rain water between them were we went to swim, was crazy how incredible it was, found out there trying to get them on the new wonders of the world. Spent the day there and watched the sunset and caught a 4x4 back and over on a river boat to get back into town. The next morning we took a little boat 4 hours up stream to get to a place called Caboret, stopped at some nice sand dunes on the way and got to Caboret and was literally 5 beach shacks and a couple restaurants built on a sand bar in the middle of NOWHERE! Stared to feel the strain of solely being with group trapped on a sand bar, went for a long walk and a nice swim in the rain and relaxed in a hammock, the sand that the dunes whipped up was unbearable though, even though it looked like paradise, it felt like thousands of knifes stabbing you because the wind was so fierce. Even the beach shacks leaked sand so we all woke up in sandy beds which was pretty amusing. We had to get to a town about 2 hours down the coast so we jumped in a pick up truck with another Brazilian family, out crazy driver sped down the beach, over the sand dunes and driving through the countryside, picking up villagers on the way, was so much fun, reminded me of hitching in Africa, sure we were cramped and all bruised but everyone was loving it, even the old ladies were, dan was really apologetic that the journey wasn't safe and stuff but that's what ive totally been craving, some really hard adventure not just a safe, easy, boring trip. When we got to the next town Tutoya, I saw Chris at the bus station which was really nice to see him, found out he was going to the same town as us so got to Parnaiba and went searching for his hostel, asked in an internet café and some kid said he would take me, turned out he had a motorcycle so he whizzed me around town and dropped me at the pousada, that was just great fun, unfortunate Chris went out, so joined the group for dinner where they were all awfully drunk, was so funny. Today we just went out for another boat trip through the delta all day, got painfully sun burnt despite not even being in the sun for long, went swimming on the beach, was so nice to see the ocean again after a month, went swimming in the delta and generally did more relaxing, gonna go find Chris and James again otherwise I think my sanity will start to slide! Heading to backpacker central Jericoacora tomorrow, so excited! That's all for now folks xxxx
