Buon Giorno!
Well, some how over the last week or so, I have managed to fall in love with Italy even more! The sights, the sounds, the people... all of it is amazing and beautiful!
Palermo was a great chill out location and I didn't exert myself too much. I mostly spent my days wondering around the city and then one day at the Beach which was about an hour away on the bus. Beautiful and relaxing.
After booking an extra day in Palermo, I mostly spent that day getting over the night before. I took an overnight train to Rome. An experience I will not be volunteering for again. Uncomfortable? If stone had a comfort rating, it would rate higher than the train!
Arriving in Rome at 7.30am (already 29°C) I tried to check-in to my accommodation but was a bit early so dumped my pack and went exploring. Knocked off the Colosseum, Constantine's Arch, the Roman Forum and the Palastina all before lunch. Was great to see all these sights that you grow up learning about. I had a spot of lunch in the gardens by the Colosseum and then headed back home to check-in, shower and sleep for a bit.
I was lucky enough to met 2 fabulous people (Fletch and Luke) on my first night in Rome, who I then spent all my nights with. We ventured out a couple of times and then had some quiet nights in too... actually no we didn't, we went out eating and drinking every night. It was great.
By day, I visited the Vatican Museums, St Peters Bascillica, the Pantheon, Piazza Navona, Trevi Fountain, the Spanish steps, Trajans Column, the National Museum, the Military Museum and lots of churches. Rome is fantastic! There is something to see around every corner.
My favourite place so far, would be the Trattoria where Luke and I had dinner last night. It is a wee restuarant run by an old (rather formidable looking) woman. There is no menu, you just sit down and they bring out the food and wine. The food is incredible! It is all seasonal and really is the most mouth-watering, sumptuous feast ever. Afterwards, we could barely move, we were so full!
So today, I head to Zurich. Excited! Then? Who knows, I still haven't decided but am closer to deciding the next destinations. Stay tuned :)
Ciao,
Caz
