We've had 2 days in Rio and I have loved it much more than I was expecting. Yesterday we visited the Selaron steps which were designed by a Chilean artist and are set with ceramic tiles from all over the world (although made famous in my eyes by Pharell and Snoop) They're so pretty to look at but they're in Lapa which turned out to be a pretty rough area so we got the bus back to Ipanema afterwards and had our first Caipriniahs at a beach bar watching some locals play beach volleyball. Today we got up early and caught the bus to Corcovado to make the trip up to see the Christ Redeemer statue (Ben is nailing the local transport,we've been on loads of buses!) Rio is beautiful but it's not until being at the top of the mountain that you fully appreciate the landscape. The city is built around mountains, lakes and long sandy beaches, the view from up there was breath taking and the sheer size of the statue is overwhelming and makes you feel very insignificant. I think we were both in awe, it's one of those scenes you see a lot in films and we couldn't believe we were actually there! Huge highlight of the megamoon for us both (we're only 3 days in!) Oh, and we saw a nun taking a selfie with Christ - another highlight! Haha.
This evening we tried out a local Churrascario (Brazilian rodizio) called Carrateo in Ipanema which was delicious and we ate way too much! (Had a great, cheap lunch at Delirium Tropical in Ipanema too, must tell Mum).
