Life is like a rollercoaster baby…
Ok, following on from my amazing Volcano adventure (read the last blog if you haven't already, thanks ;))…
I haven't really done too much in Pucon apart from chill out & take in the scenery, I had a day where I walked around the town to the Lake & then onto the black sand beach, which was cool. What made it special for me was being followed by four street dogs, all in very good condition, who then took it upon themselves to 'protect' me from anything or anyone coming near me. I think if I had owned those dogs I would have got an asbo for each one, especially when one started chasing a car…trying to eat it & another one actually nearly took a girl off her bike. Either way I really enjoyed taking my little pack around with me for about an hour, until I tried to get a coffee in a lovely restaurant & the owners shoo'ed them away, sad times :(
Today I thought, since I'm leaving, it might be a good idea to do something other than chat to people, go on the net, sleep in the amazng bed with amazing duvet's & eat. So, I decided to do something which isn't really available anywhere else apart from Canada: Hydrospeed (or hydroboarding)! I had been cacking my little pants for about 3 hours beforehand, now I am good with adrenaline activities & will happily jump out of a plane, but when it comes to water, well, it just offends me. So, off I go, the only one from the Hostel going but luckily we pick up another couple of guys on the way (2 english lads, all of only 19), now get this, these lads have just finished A-Levels & asked me if I was fresh out of Uni on a gap year HAHAHAH GET IN!!! Of course I said yes (not really), but it was very nice that they seemed to think I was a mere few years older than them, rather than the ghastly 11 that I am (O_o)
We arrive & there's another 9 lads, I am the only girl. I decide that I am determined to stay in the water & not wuss out & get in the boat like I'd heard others do, so we head down to the river all 'hoping' this will be a walk in a rather cute park. Alas, it starts off fine, we go over about 2 or 3 rapids with ease & I'm thinking maybe I should ask for my money back, I mean danger?? Not here my friend!
Then we hit a big one, waves are smashing into my face, over my head & someone behind me disappears under the water. We'd already lost one guy about 5mins in from fear & now we have lost another one who cacked himself considerably. Next up we hear it's the rocky area, somewhere they call 'The Ball Breaker' dom dom dom!!! I'd already smashed my knee on a rock so I wasn't too impressed about this but luckily I didn't manage to do myself anymore injustice, that is until….we reach the next huge rapids, rapids 3+ which scared the dollies out of me :(
Smashed my knee a further few times, meaning my poor knee had taken a complete pounding & it felt like it might possibly be hanging off. I was so close to just getting in the boat for the last one due to the knee issues, but as it was meant to be easy & as I didn't want to be a complete loser, I carried on like a trooper. Finally done we had spent just over an hour in the water battling rapids than chilling along the river in an icy 7degree's..my feet had turned white & felt like rocks, my poor little toe looked like it had lost all circulation completely but Oh what fun!!
I don't think I have ever had such an amazing hot shower as I had just now & after the restaurant man taking a shine to me, I am now going to chow down on some fish & chips & free sweeties he gave me, sweeeet.
Pucon has really stolen my heart,. There is actually a job going here at the Hostel which I would 100% love, if it wasn't for me needing to join this tour. The town is incredibly small but everyone is so friendly, the scenery mind blowing & I feel like here, my Spanish is getting my developed. I'll be very sad to leave tonight but it's the start of my 40 day tour on Wednesday so wish me luck!
Chao peeps! :)x
