Ez and Kirst on Tour!
hiya!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
decided to leave KL after 2 days - needed to get out the city. its so beuatiful here, prob the best place we've been so far. even on the bus journey here it was 2 hours going up the windy roads through the forest, with loads of waterfalls around (although the bus jouney was a bit of a white knuckle ride in itself! especially when the driver decided to over take a lorry on the tiny road!!)
anyway arrived in a big rainstorm (apparently it rains here every afternoon) its less humid here too cos we're so high up. the hostel is interesting but nice! its all backpackers here so met some nice people. we're staying in our first dorm here - its well cheap (just over a quid) and its a bit more sociable. although we dont do things by halves when we do stuff...its a 12 person dorm!! and its in old WWII army barrochs and the toilets and showers are outside!! so we get to share showers with various creatures but finally got a hot shower yesterday after a few days of freezing ones so dont care what kind of shower it is...see its not all paradise!!
nice cafe and communal areas here and close to the town and met plenty of nice people.
yesterday we went on a day tour with 6 other people and a guide in a landover...first went to the tea plantations, they're so beautiful, there are thousands of acres of them here. went to the top of the highest mountain (not for you mum!) and took some pics and saw huge moths. then we went to the tea factory and saw how they make it, its more complicated than you think! i still dont really understand it !!
we went on a trek through this forest (which was a bit more hardcore than we thought it would be!) saw lots of crazy plants, the guide Kumar knows everything! you'll see on the pics the plant that eats bugs, they are shaped like cups/stockings and the bugs get drunk on the juice and cant get out.er. saw lots of orchids too that only flower once a year, and the smallest orchid in the world!
after that we went through all their farms and then drove for bout an hour through the jungle on roads that werent really roads at all! )if you ever have to travel in a landrover with no seatbelts dont take on the back bit, it was seriously like being on a ride at alton towers!!
finally got to this little village deep in the jungle, the Orang Asli, they make up 2% of the population. the government tried to make them all move to the towns but they didnt like so went back to the jungle. had to go over this rickety bamboo bridge to get there. it was all a bit odd like going to a people zoo (for them and us!) but they do quite well out of us cos we all had to take a gift and we all bought some jewellry. we had a go of the blow pipe, which you blow darts out of (they use it for hunting obviously i didnt !) saw all their wooden houses on stilts and had a cup of weird tea and food with the chief and saw their musical instruments.
on our wa back we stopped in the jungle and saw some crazy plants and creatures...a huuuuuge poisonous spider but my camera had run out of battery so no pics of that fo you!
came back last night and were knackered!!!!! went back to our dorm bout 10.30 and slept til 11.
