Arrived safely in Rome and caught a taxi to our apartment. It is in the Catholic district, so feeling quite at home:) 1 bedroom apartment with modern bathroom and comfy bed. There is a lot of 'teak' around the place and the walls could do with a painting here and there, but it is clean, roomy and in a great spot. It also has an iron which means we no longer have an excuse for looking like hobos! Researched in the train some places to eat and drink, and headed out to find one of the recommended wine bars. Up streets, down lanes, we walked for miles in search of the elusive wine bar. Finally, wine barrels appeared like a mirage before our eyes, and we had found wine Nirvana:) Magic place, over 40 wines by the glass and a handsome waiter to boot.
Dinner, pretty spesh, just 5 mins walk then an early night as there was lots of Rome to explore.
Awoke to a gorgeous day, a quick brekky in the room (all organic as it was the only grocer we could find - who knew that butter, muesli, yoghurt, bread, bacon, eggs, panty liners and face wipes, could all be organic:)
We were on a mission to find an Enoteca that we found last time which served the most amazing truffle tapas (don't I sound posh:) and then a tiny family run leather store where I had bought a bag. Thanks to Johns trusty iPhone app, we manoeuvred our way around the streets of Rome and found both! They were just as we remembered, but sadly they didn't remember us! Not sure if truffles and a glass of wine at midday are necessarily a wise move when one is walking for miles and miles, but when in Rome..... This place amazes me every time we visit. Bustling, noisy, crazy shops nestled in hidden corners and archaeological relics around every corner. We had arranged to meet up with Lucia and Tony at Campo de Fiori for drinks at 3. Probably should have specified a more specific spot as the 4 of us made a number of circles around and still missed each other! Good to catch up on their cruise experience (not good:( and their time in Rome.
A long walk home, time for a nanna nap and out for more food! Tomorrow we hit the streets again for our last day in this amazing city. Xx
