Finally got a chance to sit down and recall the last 2 days. Said a fond farewell to beautiful Prague. Headed to the station ready for our trip to Vienna. We were confident that the train originating from Czech Republic would be superior to the German horribilus:) How wrong we were. We struggled on with our bags only to find that obviously this part of Europe is into sharing, as we were confronted with 2 women sitting opposite to each other and our seats were on the window. We excused ourselves as we climbed over them and tried to position our legs into some sort of semi comfortable position for the 4 and a half hour trip that lay ahead. To make matters worse there was a non event table sticking out that took any semblance of room we thought we may have. My knees were close to my chin and poor John had his legs at an angle that could not be seen as normal, nor recommended! It may have been the longest train trip I can remember, and to top it off, the woman next to me had a bag full of sausages to snack on (don't we all?) and the resulting reflux just added to my discomfort.
Finally we arrived in Vienna and checked into the beautiful Hotel Fleming. Downstairs for dinner where we met an interesting English guy who was running a Russian Bank in town, and he gave us the low down of what to see around town. Possibly worst night's sleep I have ever had on a pillow the size of a postage stamp, but up early to explore the city.
As usual, we hit the pavement, and walked and walked around this spectacular city. Jaw droppingly beautiful buildings around every corner. After 4 hours of walking, we decided to join a bike tour in the afternoon. So much fun - 3 hours of riding around the streets and getting all the history along the way. Can't recommend highly enough how good cycling around a city can be, especially if it is flat!
4 hrs walking and 3 hours cycling - guaranteed us burning off the beers and pasta we consumed over the day:)
Tomorrow we are going to the morning training session of The Spanish horses, then exploring the other side of the river.
Forget to tell you about our hotel room - it has a stand alone shower, looks very much like the tardis, in the middle of the room. John loving it, I am not convinced! Have taken a few tasteful picks with the glass frosting providing a modesty element, but perhaps best to keep these to ourselves:)
