So this blog is gonna be a slightly different one because I haven't been on the move for the past month, I have just been in one place...Vancouver!
Can't for the life of me remember what order I have done stuff in so just going to give you all a general overview.
Sightseeing - I've wandered around Stanley Park a lot (it's massive), been to Lynn Canyon suspension bridge, browsed the markets at Granville Island, walked along Kitsilano Beach, been down pretty much every road downtown and ventured to Grouse Mountain although haven't made it up it yet!
Activities - i SKYDIVED in Pitt Meadows! Went to see an olympic medal ceremony at BC Place. Saw a Canadian get awarded a silver and the girl behind me nearly deafened me she screamed so loud! GO CANADA GO (this is written everywhere in Vancouver)! Hopefully some skiing will get done soon! Going to a hockey game in March.
Food (especially for mum) - sushi and Tim Horton's pretty much sums up my culinary experience in Vancouver. Have developed a love of Vietnamese food. Oh and me and Samie love the pick and mix in the local supermarket - you can get everything in it - flour, sweets, pasta, rice, spices, etc.
Job - i managed to get a job after 2 weeks which i now appreciate is really good. I work in Manpower recruitment agency doing admin, registering new candidates and placing people in temp jobs. Sometimes it's fun. Sometimes it makes me remember why i ran away from my last office job although i'm earning more here than i did at home! I also have a second job with a promotions company. Did a bacardi sampling thing last week - just stood in an offie/liquor store/bottle shop whatever you call them these days handing out samplings and trying to get people to buy them.
House - I live in East Vancouver with my friend Samie who i met in the dorm of the hostel i stayed in when i first got here. We have a really cool room to share with its own kitchen and balcony and bbq. You can see the mountains from the road outside my house as it's on the top of a hill. This is providing me with some excercise as i spend the rest of my day sat on my bum in the office!
Random people - there are a lot of random people in Vancouver - i have been asked out at a bus stop by a random russian dude, seen a man on the bus who was a little over-excited, been shoved out of the way by a guy to get a seat on the bus and had 2 guys sing Fat Bottomed Girls to me and Samie. I'm sure i have more stories like this but can't remember all of them. Having read this back i'm thinking i should just avoid buses in future!
The weather - people keep asking me if it's cold in Canada. It is a little chilly but in the month i've been here we've had at least 10 bright, sunny, blue sky days. It does rain a lot which isn't helped by the fact that i have no waterproof shoes but the weather is nicer than in england so i'm pretty happy.
Misc - Have couch surfed - was wicked - everyone should do it. You get a free bed/sofa and get to meet cool people who bring wine and cheesecake to your house!
The plan now - i'm working for a couple more weeks, then doing everything all the leftover Vancouver sightseeing stuff, then heading down to Seattle, flying to LA and doing a trek america to New York - can't wait to get back on the road again!!!
