We Belize
Caye Caulker, Belize
Well it's been our first week out of The States and so glad we picked Caye Caulker to start our adventure. It's honestly been like a vacation, but let's start things out with how close we we're to missing our first night on the island...
So we didn't realize how close we were cutting it to making our water taxi after we landed until about 8 hours before we left Denver. Thankfully we had an amazing AirBnB host, Hilda, to our rescue. After we landed we had maybe an hour to deboard, clear customs, and drive across town to catch the last water taxi. Hilda had called one of her cousins to pick us up, and once we walked out of the terminal we were greeted by Leroy Domingo Jr. This mad angel drove us like a bat out of Hell across town, thru rush hour, pushing cars, trucks, cyclist, and pedestrians off the highway, and making his own lane straight down the middle. No one was spared his crazy driving (I was so amazed by his recklessness I forgot to fear for my life, and it was my birthday!). But he got us there with 3 minutes to spare, shoved us past people to the gate, got us tickets and we were on the boat! We landed at night after an hour ferry ride, made it to our room and thanked Hilda. Walked around a bit, enjoyed some cocktails, and a plate of pork and fish. First night in Caye Caulker, Sucess! More to come...
