SOUTH ISLAND - WEST COAST (SOUTH)
Hi Guys
Friday we said goodbye to Les the ledgend and headed down to Franz Josef, on the way we stoped at the bushmans centre. The bushmans centre is run by a crazy guy called Pete and has all sorts of animal attractions eg: feeding a wild pig and possums. We also watched a film about the capture of wild red deer for farming purposes, it was ridiculous, guys jumping out of helicopters onto the deers back before tying them up! We drove straight through Franz Josef afterwards. We didn't do anythign for the rest of the day as it was pouring with rain, so we just lazed around and had an early night ready for our glacier hike the next day.
Yesterday we got up early with fingers crossed for good weather, we looked out the window and the sun was shinning! we got onto the ice about 10:00am and began our full days hike. The walk was good but didn't look quite how the brochure made it look! It wasn't as blue as it was pictured and not sure it was worth the money we paid. Anyhow, we had a good group of friends doing it together so we still had a laugh and had a good day. We cooked some dinner and all chilled out with a few beers in the bar in the evening.
Today we set off early to move on down to Wanaka. We stopped at Lake Matheson and got some photos of the lake which shows mirror images of the mountains behind it, we couldn't quite see the top of Mount Cook because of the cloud but it was still quite cool. We stopped off at Ship Creek aswell and had another photo sesh infront of more water (how many photos?!) We arrived in Wanaka and it was lovely, we went down to thelake and had a dip and then went over to the Base Hostel where we had a Bar B Q and more drinks! (waist line is increasing rapidly! haha!)
Onto Queenstown next, very excited!
Speak to you all soon
