Hey there everybody, how the ding dang are you?
Well, since we last spoke to you I´ve got over the tummy bug and am fighting fit - well as fighting fit as I ever get. So, I stayed in bed whilst Florence Goodenough Nightingale looked after me and then went out for a day trip to the islands on lake Titicaca whilst I slept. Kimbo had a great time and even tried on some traditional peruvian clothing - she looks well dapper in the photos.
We then headed with great anticapation and excitement to the Amazon jungle for a 3 day trip. We got our flight and were met by Claus (our not very Peruvian sounding guide) who took us to our boat - still all very cool and Indiana Jones like. Heading down the Amazon river was breathtaking and we passed a beautiful lodge at which point one of our guys said ´¨are we staying in a place like that?¨ When Claus replied ´¨sort of¨, we knew something was up.
Needless to say our accomodation was not quite up to scratch and to cut a long story short, we didn´t see any bloody animals. No, instead one of our group memebers thought it would be good to have a dip in the Amazon river and what a fecking surprise she was bitten by something withing 3 seconds which meant that we had to trek back to the boat, cutting our excursion short. We had to race down a track thick with mud in the baking heat, which was actually quite fun, only to be met by a guide who made her drink anti cobra venom - we s*** you not. We then had to sit in our unfinsihed lodge and while away the hours doing nothing. We don´t mean to sound like we´re whinging, but it was awful. Big letter of complaint has been sent to GAP we´ll keep you posted.
We´re now at the end of our Machu Picchu trek which lasted four days. It was simply stunning and we´ve had an incredible time - this time it has fortunately met and exceeded our hopes and Kimbo has definitely seen a dream come true. We´ve covered over 46 kms and reached heights of 4200metres. We´ve walked trhough jungles, snowy mountains and across rivers and we´ve had an amazing time. We worked our little butts off mind you and are hoping that we have buns of steel - we deserve it if nothing else.
The food prepared by our porters was some of the best we´ve had in all of South America and their helpful nature was brilliant, from blowing up your air mattress to putting your tents up and down daily. They were great and the smiliest people you´ll ever see. Anyway, today we reached Macchu Picchu itself and although the mist was slightly dissappointing initially, it gave a very mystical feel and when it cleared it was something very special indeed. Beautiful.
We´re now left waiting for a train until the next section of our adventures.
We hope you´re all well and looking forward to your Easter weekend. Thinking of you and sending lots of hugs and love, from us xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
