Hey you lovely lot, how the ding dag are you? So more exciting news from us. We left Darwin and headed into Kakadu National Park. It was bloody nice, if not a tad dry. We saw our first examples of aboriginal rock art, it rocked!!!! We were where crocodile dundee was filmed and was completely stunning. We spent 2 days there and then headed down through Katherine, again, and onto Tennants Creek via some hot springs that were frankly...cold. This was meant to be an overnight stay only however, in the morning we used RAC roadside (campsite) recovery for the first time. Bless little Beastie but her battery had shorted and the fuel pump hose had broken or something similar. A short tow to what was effectively a scrap yard run by the evil alien out of Men in black resulted in a new hose, 3 jump starts and turning our battery around (apparently this helps) meant that we were off on the road again.
After this little adventure we headed down to Alice Springs. Now Alice Springs is meant to be a desert and we had been told by every person that we have met that it will be the driest, hottest place we will visit. For the first time on the roadtrip Kim stopped worrying that we would be flooded. Whatever Australia, it has not stopped raining and the rivers are flooded.
We decided to risk it anyway and continued on to Ayres Rock and The Olgas, driving carefully and slowly through creeks galore. As we reached the rock however, the sun started blazing and we had a beautiful walk around the rock and watched it at sunset, delightful. The next morning we got up early and walked around The Olgas, which are equally if not more amazing. We left the sunshine and headed back up to Alice Springs.
We were half way back when we drove through an incredible lightning storm and then more flooded creeks. It appears Alice is more flooded than when we left. We were effectively marooned in our campsite last night as the bridges to us were all closed incase of more flooding. It has made us think of home if nothing else. We are hoping to leave here tomorrow and start the long journey to East and on to Daintree National Park and the Great Barrier Reef. More water then but where it's supposed to be.
We are both well and having a fab time and thinking of you all lots. It is super wierd here as the shops are now full of Christmas trees and naffness but 30 degrees outside, bonkers.
Sending lots of love and hopefully be in touch again soon,
post us some messages you meanies,
love Hats and Kimbo xx
