Broome - Cape leveque
We spent 5 days in Cape Leveque.
Day 1
Left Broome
Drove to Cape Leveque
250 km in all but 86 kms of the worst road we have travelled
IT WAS DEEP SAND AND DIPS
We were relieved to arrive at Kooljama at Cape Leveque
We could watch the whales from our campsite, mum thought it was heaven! Kooljaman resort has both west and east facing views so we couls watch sunrise and sunset.
Day 2
We drove around to the east side to fish and swim. We fished off the rocks and we took photos of the blue water, white sands and red cliffs. this is a fanstastic place.
In the afternoon we went to visit our new friends, Caroline, Andrew and 5 Children (Abby10, Max 8, Scarlet 6, Rosie 4 and Maggie 2) who were camping nearby. It was the worse 10 km we have ever driven with the road dropping away, big mud water holes and rocks and sand but it was worth it.. they had a whole beach bay to themselves so we spent the afternoon swimming in crystal clear water that was so warm. Billy and Max fished from the mangroves and caught quite a few fish. a few days later we found out there was a saltwater croc there!!
Day 3
We drove out to a pearl farm and one arm point (the furthrest tip of the dampier peninsula) which is an aboriginal community so we needed a permit and we visited the hatchery where they have turtles, nemo fish, anenomies, and baramundi. we also went to the pearl farm on the coast.
Day 4
we had only booked 3 days at cape leveque and wanted to stay more but there wasnt any camp sites left so we stayed in very simple safari tents. Mum and I had one and dad and Billy stayed in the other one. it was good to stay for 5 nights because the beaches were fantastic and we saw whales all day travelling up and down the coast. Billy did catch some fish but the swimming was the best part. See the photos
Day 5
another day watching whales and swimming at the east beach and watching the sunset from the west beach. driving on the beach was great, we had to let the tyres down to 18 so we could drive along the soft sand but it was to get to the best beach. there wasnt many people there so we had the beach to ourselves.
What we loved about Cape Leveque - dad loved the white beaches and being able to take the car on to the beach (he fell asleep on the sand in the shade of the car -see photo. Mum loved the whales-seeing a whale every single time you looked out to the water, Billy loved that the water was so warm and inviting, and I loved swimming with my new friends
What a beautiful magical place. It was the most relaxing part of the holidays.
