Overslept a bit after not getting a ton of sleep, but had time for a shower and a quick breakfast. Raul and I headed north out of town towards Paracas, about 40 min away. We drove through a strange landscape of sand dunes as far as the eye can see, interspersed with vineyards and fruit orchards. What these plants were living on, I have no i…

Up at 530 for Juan to take me to the bus station where I boarded a fancy double decker tour bus. I think I was even in the first class area! The seats were bigger and there was a tv, but aside…
500 alarm, accompanied by the nightmarish sound of around 15 roosters all crowing at once from one of the buildings nearby. Apparently it's ok to keep roosters in the nice hotel/hostel area? 6…
No alarm! I slept as long as I wanted today, which turned out to be only 7. Peru has me trained to an early schedule. Today is my free day to wander Arequipa at my own pace. So, after a leisur…
Today I woke at 530 and noticed the music from the discoteque next door was still going. Peruvians know how to party! I grabbed a quick bite for breakfast and was picked up at 610. We set off …

Hey David - I've been following your posts! They are so much fun to ready - You seem to be having a great time. The weather here is quite sucky but hopefully it will be more spring-like when you get home! Take care, be safe and enjoy the rest of your adventure:-)
The Birdman of Alcatraz
Sounds like a diet of alpaca in various guises and a big wad of coca leaves in your cheek agrees with you. Talking to Charlie about where Uncle Dave is at every opportunity, and I reckon he sorta gets it. He'd not been to our place since Christmas, but when I asked him about the coin in the computer room he remembered it, and when I asked him where it came from he quickly said, "Egypt." It appears his brain works. Also playing with Play Doh, I made some food items with the molds, and he put them in a pot with a lid, slid them under the couch in the basement, waited a bit, then went "Beep...beep...beep" in that piping voice. I was so tickled. Even used a flattened sheet of play doh as his hot pad, and was quick to protest when I was ready to make it into other shapes. We are all doing well, but eager to have you back here. Thanks for your updates. We live vicariously through your posts. Have fun and sleep when you get home. Love you a bunch. Your father

Oh! figured out how to reply. Yes, more pictures on the way. Not getting much time at the computer. Glad you all are enjoying hearing about my trip. Thank you for taking care of cats, mom!
Quetzalcoatl
Yay for you, diving in and getting after it. You always have those bits when you are tired and cranky, but just gobble up the experience so you have lots to reflect on later. Makes me very happy to think of you bashing about and seeing and doing all manner of lovely things. 20 degrees and hard wind right now, with snow expected Thurs., so even if you burn some (high altitude is nasty that way) enjoy any fine days you have. Great pix you posted, and I am hungry for more. Hope you are keeping the camera humming. Off to babysit tomorrow, so that should lift our spirits no matter what the weather. Take care, old pal. Your fatherly fellow

Glad you made it. 5 hrs Z time should get you by. Small twinge of guilt about begging off taxi service. Must do something nice for Mike. Fired up to hear your adventures as you go along. Be cool, don't drool or play the fool. Love you a heap.
