And so we return to civilization! The last three weeks have been incredible - tomorrow we leave the tour and get back to Johannesburg for our flight out.
The last blog I wrote was just before we hit the Okavango delta - the trip there was just amazing. It takes two hours by road then an hour and a half by boat from the nearest town to get into the delta, from there all you will see is hippos, pythons, crocs and whatever land animals are hanging around. It was paradise with lilies and reeds everywhere, we just loved it.
From the delta we went north to Chobe, a national park with 150,000 elephants, we spent the evening on a boat going down the chobe river watching them all wash and play - its hard to give you an idea of it all in a few lines!!
From Chobe we hit THE border of borders - where the chobe river meets the Zambezi river and where Namibia, Botswana, Zambia and Zimbabwe all meet. There is a ferry across between the countries and its literally a free for all - crazy!! Plus lots of lorries on both sides waiting on the ok to take their goods into the other country - lots of shouting and backhanders.
Through the border to zambia, immediately the poverty became much worse. No villages had cars or concretebuildings - all the round grass houses and donkeys. Livingstone was our only stop in zambia - visited Victoria falls (stunning but unfortunately quite dry just now!) and had a day in the town.
Lots of funny stories like elephants causing traffic jams, baboons investigating our truck, kezz thinking a local had stolen his camera when he'd left it in the tent! Lots of good nights, good food, great group of people on the truck and lots of laughing.
Bad bits include the heat (Botswana and zambia very humid and in the 40s), the cholera epidemic happening 20 minutes away across the border to Zimbabwe and the black mamba snake found in the pool two hours after we'd been swimming in it! Theres a phrase that everyone uses here - "this is Africa!" meaning these things happen here, if you've not been bitten, don't worry! Ha ha!
Anyway im off to get tea - just had some kids from the local village turn up and dance with us, was really sweet. Will write some more about it all from new Zealand.
Love kezz and mox x x
