First day walking!
Massive hills, beautiful scenery!
Melting snow. A few days earlier and we would have been walking as it snowed, but we brought the weather with us and its been 28 degree days since we arrived. The day took a little longer than expected to get to Roncevallis but when we arrived we were greeted by some very hospitable volunteers who manage a massive albergue (hostel for the pilgrims). It was a converted monastery and had all the things you needed (hot shower and comfy bed) after a long day walking! We shared a room with an older gent, John, who apologised in advance for his snoring! Over our pilgrims dinner of pasta, trout and ice cream, Sarah and I both confessed that when we went to have a shower we both got in fully dressed without realising! So tired!
