Kennington to Cape Town
WALLOWING WITH THE HIPPOS
As the road down to Maun (a centre for Botswana's Ockovanga Delta excursions) was flooded and impassable, we decided to drive to the Western Panhandle part of the Okovango Delta via the Caprivi Strip. The Caprivi Strip is a thin strip of land owned by Namibia which separates Angola and Botswana on either side for a thousand kilometres.
Whilst Botswana felt more relaxed and professional, Namibia was certainly more ordered. The roads were straighter, the tarmac smoother, the sign posting clearer, and with picnic spots every 10 kilometres or so. We could certainly feel the German influence. .
The campsites were equally well organised. We enjoyed one night the Ngepi Lodge, making the most of the alfresco 'thrones' and wallowing in a tin bath overlooking the river. We did our own version of the 'Caprivi Strip' whilst trying not to offend the hippos!
