Day Three:
Checked out, wearily. At 10am from Augusta YHA. Basic but grand. Went straight to Cape Leeuwin lighthouse which is most south westerly point of Oz. Amazing day with great views. Cost 6 bucks to get into lighthouse grounds but 15 if you wanted guided tour of lighthouse. We just got basic entry.
This area is the point where the Indian and Southern oceans meet (carol was trying to convince me if I looked hard enough I could the actual line...).
After lighthouse we drove back to Augusta..not much happening at all so we went to pier, took a few snaps and set off up north.
Next we drove up caves road rather than highway as recommended by the guy at the hostel as this was more scenic.
Stopped off in Hamelin bay, went for walk on beach and even managed to see seals swimming-about 30 of them. Lovely beach/scenery.
Next possibly one of the highlights for me so far - the lake cave. Cost $20 entry which was about right. There was 5 in our group, ourselves and 3 Asians. We descended the many steps to the cave, heart attack city!
Our guide Matt brought us through the history of the cave, how/when it was formed. Got to hold 100,000 year old stalactite! After this we sat down and Matt gave us a light show of the cave, different light settings for great pics. This cave has 1 of 2 suspended platforms which was formed then the end of it eroded by water, in the entire world. Other in France so it was good to see. Tourist Snap! Had an actual red hot dog in lake cave café (not undercooked but actually red!) before heading to next stop - the Margaret River chocolate factory.
There was no tour but there was loads of different chocolate types, colours etc. Also have a few bowls near door for sampling..yum. You could even buy chocolate scented candles, massage oils etc.
So off we set again on a short drive to Prevally beach. Massive waves and even seen a few surfers in distance. Chilled out there for a short while hoping to catch sunset which was put down by low hanging clouds! b******OS! We spend tomorrow night in Cottesloe beach outside Perth so we will hope for one there! Drove to Margaret river YHA and checked in. Private dorms had nice area for themselves away from the partying shared dorms which was cool. Only 3 couples staying there. About 2k outside town of Margaret river which was a little more hoping than Augusta! Not a lot but still a bit more! Strolled around window shopping for a while as shops were closed and decided to eat in the Settlers Inn. Pitcher of beer = $16.80! Get in there!! Had some nice bangers & mash, Carol had veggie curry which were both nice. Got to watch Wimbledon on TV but guess what? It was a re-run due to rain!
Left the pub and it was time for early night!
