New Zealand
So here we are and after only 4 days we're travelled to the most northern point, Cape Reinga and visited an "island" where Rochelle an Rob [niece and husband] once worked and met a long time work colleague of Roger's[brother-in-law]. And Ken has seen wall to wall "real Rugby"! What he'll do when we get home and see UK teams I have no idea as he thinks now UK is SO slow!! Absolutely beautiful countryside and as I remember from my visit30 odd years ago, either you turn a corner and see the sea or mountains! Beautiful! And I have to stop taking pictures of rainbows as we have seen so many full bows.
The plan now is to travel back south [although this apartment we're in for these last few days will be hard to leave] and travel to the South Island and do some of the things that Roger has suggested.
So far it has been sunny with short showers BUT I did a shop and bought two jackets and two long sleeved Tshirts in Auckland. And TIGHTS for the first time in 18 months! Yuk!
Today we have driven to the most northern point Cape Reinga which was beautiful. Then a lovely lunch in a winery Una found!! [Yes she has the knack of finding nice restaurants everywhere!!]
Tomorrow the plan is to drive along the western coast road to Auckland and then on to Coromandel. Then we will start the southern island which will be much colder!!
So that's in a nut shell!
Now I can use the internet for free in this hotel I have downloaded more photos which tell the story of a our travels so far.
Today we crossed over in a ferry and went down a rather windey road through forests and yes again saw more full rainbows and amazing scenery. And of course we have had some wonderful meals! Tonight mine was a sea food platter. What a feast! Oysters, mussels, scallops, prawns etc etc.
So for those who like to
Look at maps we have been to:
Auckland then up the east road following the coast to
Whangarei
Tutukaka
Paihia
Russell [no not an island as I keep saying1]
Cable Bay
Cape Reinga
Cable Bay
Kohukohu
West coast road
Baylys Beach
Dargaville
And back to Whangarie
Tomorrow we'll be going south of Auckland but not sure where but then to Wellington and the south Island which is going to be cold[er!!].
