* Kemi's Travels *
Before we knew it, it was my birthday, my 25th birthday!! To celebrate the occasion we checked into the 5* Dreams Resort and Spa Cancun and managed to blag a free upgrade to one of the best sea view rooms in the hotel...of course ;)
The hotel was beautiful, with the best position in Cancun at the very end of the pennisula so all sides were facing the stunning beaches, the water was just incredible here. Now after 7 months of backpacking, we certainly knew how to make use of the all inclusive, we definitely ate and drank our money's worth and more! The food was excellent, all restaurants A La Carte for lunch and dinner, and a variety of places to choose from, all beachfront. It was a fantastic resort, so glad I chose it. You never know with all inclusives, the standards vary massively. We made the most of this amazing place and soaked up the luxury life for 3 days. On my birthday night we headed into the strip in Cancun to check out the nightlife, they had adopted the all inclusive mentality, even at the clubs so some of them tried to charge $50 cover charge as you got free drinks, but obviously Hayley and I refused to pay, and luckily the head promoters walked us straight in for free at three different places.
After using the hotels facilities after check out, including a cheeky final 3 course meal and more champagne, we got the boat across to Isla Mujeres in the evening. We booked into Po Ca Na a highly rated hostel, though we were dreading being in a dorm after almost a month of no hostels. No air con and it was boiling hot, to make matters worse poor Hayley's bed had bed bugs which luckily she detected early on so was able to move beds and escape a huge attack, though it was still gross. We complained first thing, got a refund and left. I went to a dive shop and we managed to get a good deal for a beautiful room there as I was going to dive with them that afternoon. No one else booked in for the dive so I was really lucky and they still took me anyway, this meant just me and the divemaster, meaning we could stay down there longer. I am great with my air as somehow I dont seem to breathe that much down there, my instructor even ran out of air before me, but just used my spare mouthpiece so he could stay down with me. It was a good dive, lots to see. That evening Dad arrived, from Germany, it was great to see him. Hayley and I met him at the airport! Dad had booked us into a huge apartment in Playa Del Carmen and rented a car so onto the next adventure, travelling around Mexico.
