Finally got to Australia after spending a gruelling 8 hours in Singapore airport, and having the most uncomfortable plane journey plus the added bonus of arriving in Darwin at 4.30am in the morning, but it was so nice to arrive in 'civilisation', no lingering sewage smells of south east Asia. It is also strange though because it felt weird at the same time, after four months in a third world countries, being back in a western country felt so weird.
Darwin is a lovely city and it was defiantly not what I expected, it is very modern and because its so touristy the people were all very friendly. Darwin has a lovely coast but because of the salt water crocodiles you cant really go swimming, apart from a few spots that are 'safe', one being a nudist beach, delightful right. We stayed in Darwin for four days before heading to Alice Springs, so in those four days we went to Litchfield National Park, which was lovely, we hired a car for the day and took about two hours to get there on a never ending road, but was a great way to see the countryside, the first stop was the termite mounds that were absolutely huge, I looked like an ant standing next to some of them, then there were four water falls that we visited, the one had rock pools, and then another was huge but was surrounded by rainforest, it was so stunning. I was a bit weary about swimming as there was a sign saying freshwater crocodiles may come in with the floods so may cause, 'injury or death', its defiantly the thing you want to read before going swimming! Other than that there was not much else we did but chill out by the pool or walk around town, we went out for drinks a few times and I met up with an old school friend from Zim whom I had not seen since I was 12 or 13 so that was really great. Oh and we went and watched Inglorious b******s, what a great and weird film.
Not much else to report back about Darwin but will be going on the famous 'Ghan' train for 24 hours down to Alice Springs to visit 'Uluru' which I am very excited about, we are going on a tour so will be with a group of people and will be sleeping in the outback under the stars.
