On Thurs 1st Oct I had my last day at work in Brisbane, and that night got a bus north to Airlie Beach. I arrived 18 hours later! Airlie Beach is quite nice though, and trips to the Whitsudays go from here. On Saturday I went on a sailing trip around the islands over 3 days and 2 nights. It was a proper sailing boat and we got to help out with setting the sails etc, and it was a party boat so full of other backpackers and had music going the whole time. It had to be English speaking no luckily so German rubbish ringing through my ear drums!
The first afternoon we went to a snorkelling sight. I freak out having my head underwater and having to breathe but I gave it a go and it wasn't too bad. I didn't drown anywho. There wasn't much to see at the site, just a few fish, and it was quite cloudy in the water. I went snorkelling 3 times over the whole weekend though and am gradually becoming more confident in the water, and there were loads of pretty coloured fish and coral (just a shame I can't name any of them). On day 2 we went to Whitehaven beach. I had seen so many photos of the beach at this point and I hoped it would be as gorgeous as it looked like it would be. It was really amazing, the sand was so unbelievably white! I could barely see without wearing sunglasses where the sun reflected off of the sand. It's just a shame that you can't swim in the sea without wearing a full stinger suit. Damn those box jellyfish. Unfortunatley I had done a bit of a poor job applying my sun cream, and yes I acquired some patchy sunburn. Which seems to be becoming too regular for my liking lately. Well, I should just appreciate the sunshine!
