Well this is the first time in years that I have not had a phone or any immediate way of making contact with the outside world on New Years. It feels a little isolated and I just hope that my friends and family all around the world are seeing 2013 in with style.
I went kayaking this morning with Mike to an island just in front of our campsite, we tied up our kayaks and jumped in to snorkel around the island for about an hour. We also climbed onto the rocky island and jumped off two 'cliffs' as such. All is all we were out for about 2.5 hours and had a lovely time. Even got some underwater pics. The scenery below water level is definitely not as colourful as the great barrier reef, however we are told that Lake Malawi, the 3rd largest lake in Africa is the most diversely rich fish ecosystem in the world!! We just saw a lot of the smaller species that are on offer. This afternoon we came back and assisted with rotating the pig spit that we are going to enjoy tonight. We are also having a bad taste fancy dress party tonight. We all had to buy our outfits in Mzuzu from some charity stores and instead of buying our own outfits we drew them out of a hat. I bought for Rory. So I am still not sure what I will be in tonight but I am sure that photos will follow in coming days so that you have an idea. We are not actually in Mzuzu, we just stopped there for lunch yesterday but I was not able to locate our exact location Kandi Beach on the map with this site, so Mzuzu had to do.
When we arrived yesterday we were all keen to upgrade and enjoys a villa on the beach. However Ruth's inability to do her job and ring ahead and get prices or make any bookings means that when we arrived everything was full. Considered a dorm for us all, but decided that the privacy of my tent was a more attractive option especially since we will be partying on New years eve and if we are in a dorm no sleep even in the early hours is likely to happen. Considering Laura is currently off the truck with the Dutch girls having my own tent for about 5 nights now has not been bad at all. Did make sure that this morning when I woke up I cleaned up her side so she felt a little welcome when she arrived.
Took out my braids today as decided that I had had enough and wanted to brush my hair. Who knows, if my hair gets too painful they may go back in at some point. My hair is now a complete frizzy mess on the top of my head so must shower before the spit roast tonight and before seeing my amazing outfit :)
