We have 12 nights left under canvas and to be honest as ants invaded our tent tonight we were not too sad about that fact. Am also tiring of putting the damn thing up and down on almost a daily basis. Laura and I are a little concerned that we will get rather lonely back in the Western world as we currently sleep about 30cm apart and enjoy our chats before bed and in the morning. We can also speak quite easily to the rest of the group whilst in bed due to canvas really not providing any soundproofing. Funny how 12 weeks into the trip and we all still set our tents up within a few metres of each other. Guess we figure it is best to have safety in numbers.
Crossed into Botswana today and thankfully we now have free entries into all remaining countries. Went on a river cruise through Chobe National Park this afternoon and saw a load of Hippos out of the water feeding. We got to within 5 metres of them which was very very cool! We were in a dinghy type boat that had 2 seats on each side and about 18-20 seats in total. The driver would put the boat literally on the bank with a Hippo, crocodile, lizard, Impala, whatever presented really and we could take some great shots. Some of the girls were not too happy about being so close to the wildlife. I figured that he wouldn't do it, if he didn't think it was safe. Thankfully we all came back with all arms and legs still attached.
Zac and Shelly were busy telling everyone not to worry as us Aussies have lessons in school on how to handle a crocodile, so if anything goes wrong they will be fine as there are 4 Aussies to assist and save them. Lessons include how to fight a crocodile and what to do if they attack. About 20 minutes after all this chat, Laura very innocently turned to me and quietly said 'do you really have lessons on how to deal with crocodiles?' I had to fight not to laugh as I realised that she was very serious in her request. I assured her that no, there were no special lessons as most Australians have never even seen a crocodile in the wild! I love how each country has the completely wrong picture about what it is like in another country and way over emphasizes everything that they know about that country.
