Dumb and Dumber
Dumb and Dumber arrive in San Francisco! What you need to decide is which one is dumb and which is dumber? Lets give you a helping hand...
.... Our second night in San Fran and we decide to go to a Baseball game - San Francisco Giants v Philadelphia Philies. At the top of the stadium there is a spectacular view of San Fran with 2 bridges - we were arguing over which one was the Golden Gate Bridge and trying to spot alcatraz so decided to settle the bet by asking a local - kelly walks up bold as brass only to be mortified when he tells her "neither" the Golden Gate was at the other side of the city! Next Kelly says that the Giants are the team currently practicing on field (in red and grey) because they must be first to practice as they are at home (where she gets this from we dont know) Gillian isnt so sure so turns to 2 guys dressed head to toe in the Giants strip and asks "how will we know which colour the giants are so we know who to support" bearing in mind this guy is dressed head to toe in black/orange with GIANTS plastered on his front - you take a wild guess!!!
Alcatrz was the highlight by far. We chose the "after hours" trip which includes audio and was by far the best option. From Alcatraz island you get the most amazing view of San Francisco at night - that was worth it in itself as we were literally blown away (the wind had a helping hand there - absolutely freezimg). We got to hear the cell doors slam closed as the cell mates would have done at night - very creepy and a wee bit sad too....!
Went for dinner and clubbed at the wharf one night and had a fab time - food was amazing and managed to find an irish bar open late after dirty martinis for a wee midnight cap of cider.
Our second last day we headed for Ashbury Heights - very cool - could have shopped till we dropped but due to the lack of space in the bloody backpacks managed to play it safe with only a few purchases.
Leaving the best for last we had an adventure and a half leaving San Fran. Had booked a shuttle bus to take us to LA, leaving at 12.30 to get us there 6 hours later just in time to make it to the airport to check in for our flight to Fiji. We head off early that morning to make sure we catch the bus - when it comes we nearly keeked our pants as it can only be described as a small transit van with windows (that didnt open) - to take 8 people on a 6 hour trip to LA - not looking forward to it but we boarded anyway. 2 minutes later the dodgy driver starts to pace back and forth outside all the while eyeing us up - turns out they didnt have our booking (even though we had booked through STA to play it safe) so to cut a long story short booted us off. Gill turned white with panic and cursed the poor driver whilst Kel remained calm (for a change) and decided to head to STA to sort it out. Moral of the story stay calm and complain and you end up getting a free flight to LA and refunded for the shuttle - whilst u spend the 6 hours you would have spent in the van in the pub - SUPERB!
