Montezuma was a shuttle-ferry-shuttle ride away from La Fortuna, on the east side of Costa Rica in the Nicoya province. It used to be a fishing village but is beginning to get steadily more popular with eco-tourists, yoga hippies and backpackers. It's a small town with a few nice nearby beaches, a handful of restaurants, supermarkets and a bunch of souvenir shops. There were also apparently some quite nice waterfalls in the region (not that we opted to go see them!). We cooked food for ourselves for the first time in over two months, since the cost of eating out in Costa Rica is easily double or triple that of any country we've been through so far. Not exactly a hardship as the supermarket sold huge, perfectly ripe avocados - guacamole featured pretty heavily on the menu. Daytime was spent on the beach or outside the room on a day-bed or hammock, it was far too hot to be inside with the temperature reaching a very humid 40°C one day. I stayed up until 4am watching the NZ vs SA semi-final cricket, wish I hadn't bothered! Mostly we just had a relaxing few days spent doing not very much at all, tough life indeed!
Buenos tardes,
KL
