Merci Beau Coup? Coup? Hey theres trouble in Paradise. Seems that the people here in Maldives had enough of their President
and had a small coup yesterday and out he went. Not that it involved us at all as a matter of fact we didn't know until it was
all over and done. There were rumours of the protesters lining up on the airport runway but that eats into the Tourist money and
thats what it's all about here,Tourist. You see a couple of months ago the Government was up in arms about the massages and
alcohol being served at the resorts by Muslims, they got that ironed out when they thought about how much it would cost them
in tourist money if they were to make this a dry country so they put their heads together as all Governments do and came up with
a brainstorm, have the non-Muslims pour the alcohol and the Muslims can serve it.As for the massages they are back not sure how
they handled that one. Well now the guys with the great ideals are gone and I am sure that the Maldives will do great once the guy
who ran the place for 30 years is allowed back in power.
Anyway, We arrived here under the cover of darkness landing at Maldives airport which is a small island it's self.On the tarmac there
were many private jets but the one that caught my eye was the tricked out 737 it was a small one but never the less it had all kinds of chrome
and was spit shined ready to go anywhere.Well through customs and we were off to our resort on a two engine speed boat as we were the only
passengers I told the drive let's Miami Vice it over to the Resort and that he did. We were wizzing along under a almost
full moon with white caps and neon lite hotels along the shores. We passed lit up mega yahts the size of small cruise ships and
tourist carrying bus type boats. We pulled up to our dock for the Sheraton Full Moon island perfect with the almost full moon
overhead. Of course they lost our reservation but that only goes with the flow of our vacation this year. Somehow they found us a
room that is great, walk right out onto the beach and we have a $120 credit each day too.See we had signed up for the garden Villa
but after seeing them our room was nicer and had direct beach access.Anyway come morning we were greeted by the sun,hot showers
and coffee beachside.I had taken a shower the night before and turned on the shower thinking it was the hot side but someone installed
the faucet wrong but that didn't matter as I am now well tuned to cold showers after Tonga and Burma. The next morning I tried
the other direction and there it was hot water times two.
Well morning became afternoon and boy who moved the sun closer? Between the white sand and the crystal blue water Joy and I have
complete tans everywhere.I have sunburn in places I never had sunburn before. The sun reflects on everything here and we have the
tans to prove it.I have not ever been so tan except maybe when I was a kid and my parents took us to the beach for a week and we
ran around shirtless and in the 70's there was no such thing as sun block just sunburn and pealing.Well we are now well covered
with our 30SPF and with any luck hold this color till we get home.
Being here and this is my thoughts of the Maldives not Joy. It's like being on a cruise ship except you don't get to get off
the resort/ship everyday.Sure it's beautiful, but I like mingling with the locals maybe looking at some cheap trickets okay this is
not a b**** just my side. Everything here is shipped in so everything is expensive. However the Corona's are $8 bucks and that is about
what you pay anywhere in the world except Mexico and back home for them, hell I paid $50 for one a couple of years back at the Burj Al Arab
but I was having drinks with Rodger Fedder and Tiger Woods well they were in the room just not anywhere near us.We heard that the
seafood was not so good through Trip Advisor so we went the steak way and it was a homerun. Not our cheapest meal but walked away
happy.Breakfast is covered in our room rate and they do great job there too.Hmm this blog is boring...We haven't done much here
except eat and lay around and snorkel. We are saving up as we attack Sri Lanka tomorrow. That should run us down as we really packed
alot into our plan. One of the biggest is laundry, we are critical at the moment but I refuse to pay $3 bucks a pair to was my
underwear even though thats what you would have to pay me to wash someone elses underwear. We are gambling the Sri Lanka will be
cheaper.Anyway, time to go load up on breakfast so we can skip lunch we by pass that by eating the food we stored up in China
at the lounge but I am tiring of caramelised cookies for lunch maybe I'll try a $19 burger? See you in Sri Lanka!
