J: we made a little stop at Philadelphia on our road trip. Philly, as they call it, is a lovely town, it feels old fashioned but in a modern retro way. First we went to see the famous Liberty Bell, while queuing we got to read a lot about its history that neither of us knew, such as Philly was actually the capital of USA for 10 years while the letter of independence was held there. Then we got to see the genuine bell..... Smaller than I had imagined, but what it stood for and the history of it was cool.
S: we crossed the road into Independence Hall only to be told that they had ran out for tickets to see inside the room where the actual Letter Of Independence was written and signed.
We went over to congress Hall where we caught a tour where Washington and Adams were inaugurated. A kind ranger told us to go queue outside the main independence hall building as not everyone turns up at the end of the day, and as luck would have it they managed to squeeze us in. I quickly found out that the British might have had a troubled history USA, I clearly need to read some more about American history. We got to see the chair that George Washington sat on, apparently all the original furniture in the room got burnt when the English used the place as barracks and needed fire wood. It is also the place where both the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution were debated and adopted.
