S: we knew we had a drive from Washington DC to Niagara Falls so we started out pretty early on in the day.
It was great driving the dodge through all the country roads and seeing the quaint wooden houses with their porches and American flags out the front. Now James had organised everything and had said we are going to Canada, and I thought he just meant we would get close. We arrived at the immigration border and I was like a child and couldn't actually believe we were going to hit Canada on this trip. We eventually made it to Barbara's, who we were staying with but as she was out, we let ourselves in the unlocked back door, apparently this is the norm in Canada, and made us feel safe and homely. We made ourselves at home and introduced ourselves to Barbara's cats, who clearly loved a fuss. As we had arrived late, Barbara recommended a place called 'The Works' to eat at. It was a burger joint with over 50 different combinations of burgers. We tried an Elk burger which was delicious and James had a Molson Canadian to see what the beer is like as it is only brewed in Canada.
J: I had wanted to treat Sam to something all trip and here was the place to do it. We took a helicopter flight over the Niagara Falls. Firstly it was exciting just flying in the helicopter then we saw Niagara Falls in all its beauty from a birds perspective. I kept switching between the excitement of the helicopter and the falls, it was such fun and it was defiantly worth it.
After the helicopter trip which I didn't want to end we then walked along the falls, the view from the Canadian side is defiantly the best. The falls were huge, the largest in the world by water volume. It was slightly odd though having this huge natural spectacle in the middle of such a built up city.
On the way back to the car we popped into a shop called 'Pepper Palace' the shop was a chilli sauce shop and that's all they sold! The woman working there was a fantastic Mexican and let us try anything and was recommending all different one's. Although she was shocked at me when after signing the waver she gave me her hottest sauce called Napalm at 4 million scoville. I thought it had a good kick but she said that everyone usually cries after trying it before, she took photos to add me to the hall of fame lol.
S: we visited the flower clock, which was very pretty but we didn't stay for long. We continued along the road to Niagara On The Lake, which was a quaint little town and full of lovely shops that I could quite easily spend all day browsing lol. We stopped at the golf club to see Lake Ontario, it's massive and you can't even see the other side. The nice lady in the chilli shop had told us about the Glen walk, so we made lunch the next day and set off. We thought it was going to take the best part of 6 hours but it actually only took 2. The scenery was beautiful, walking through the forests, hearing the river and then walking alongside the river. We stopped on some rocks to watch the rapids and soon realised why nobody is allowed to raft down it anymore, it's a very turbulent river. I had a quick dunk of my toes and it was freezing so they were swiftly removed lol.
J: after we went for a little boat trip, we went on the Horn Blower (which is the Canadians name for Maid of the Mist). It stated off with a pass by the American Falls then up the river to the large horseshoe falls that you think of when someone says Niagara Falls. It doesn't quite go in under the falls but it gets close enough that the water spray is more than any shower! I loved being that close to really get an idea of the power of the huge falls
