J: We made it to Kathmandu City, the capital of Nepal after a great bus journey over a rather large mountain. We visited Durbar Square, which is an area opposite the old royal palace with over 40 temples and shrines. They were nearly built on top of each other. We went into the royal museum, which some how led into the 9 storey high temple, which hurt both our calves that were still recovering from the Poon Hill trek. It was really interesting going around it all and finding out about the royal family, and how it just stopped when they became a republic. We also found out you can have the job of a human goddess if you tick the right boxes which included; being a virgin, black hair with curls to the right, eye lashes like those of a cow and a voice of a sparrow. Not much considering you are a human Goddess.
S: We decided to explore the area of Thamel, it was brilliant and we walked for miles around the city taking it all in. The streets were full of hippie shops and artists that had so many beautiful things to buy. Some refer to it as a 'Ghetto' - not sure it was the safest place to visit but it certainly had some great places to go to. On the last day I got a dodgy tummy again, so we just chilled out, so I could recuperate. Nepal has been an amazing place and I would have said the food is out of this world, until the last day when Nepalese belly set in lol. The people are great and the way of life is something we both enjoyed after the hustle and bustle of India. We're already planning to come back in a couple of years to do some more trekking and shopping. It's been quite frustrating not being able to shop to take souvenirs home, as they have had some beautiful clothes and bags.
J: If Sam was let loose the budget would have all been spent she loved the shops so much! And our backpacks would have definitely not been big enough.
