S: Getting to Cambodia wasn't the easiest journey. We climbed aboard the bus knowing we would get off the first stop over the border, but when we got there the conductor said there wasn't any more buses until the next day, so we decided to stay on the bus. The journey turned into a 24-hour marathon, going the long way and the bus breaking down lol, but we finally got to Siem Reap.
J: We had a little walk to the local war museum. It said a free guide available, turn out it was a free tour guide taking us round, he was actually in the war there and started fighting when he was just 13! He only had one leg and loads of shrapnel around his body. He took us all around the place telling us about the war and the items on display, we could hold all the weapons which was cool, although we got to one bit which he rushed us through the shed telling us not to touch the mortar shells as they were uranium tipped still, good job we moved quickly into the room next door separated by a wooden wall; I love the health and safety in Asia. It was powerful when you saw the old exploded tanks that had human bones in them still.
He said, how at 13 they weren't trained soldiers and that he lost 6 friends when they went fishing one pulled the pin on a grenade, threw the pin and held the grenade......
S: We wandered round the night market looking at all the exquisite gifts. If we weren't travelling we could bring so many things home.
We hired bikes and set off for Angkor Wat at 5am. It was about a 6km ride there, and although it was cloudy which dulled the sunrise, looking around at the way in which it was built, with all the different designs, Angkor Wat was amazing. We spent about 3 hours looking round just Angkor Wat, then we decided we wouldn't do the short route we would do the long route to the other temples (of course!).
We went to the Tomb Raider temple (Ta Prohm) and saw where some of the film was filmed. It was very cool.
J: All the temples at Angkor Wat were amazing, we spent 11 hours there in the end. Although I did say to Sam she needed to wear a full T-shirt before going, but she wore a vest and wasn't allowed to the top of one temple, I went to check it out and it was defiantly the best part of the whole place lol.
We went out with some people at our hostel that evening and spent most the night in a bar that sold 1 dollar cocktails.
S: What James if forgetting to say is, it absolutely poured with rain during Angkor Wat, for most of the day so we got completely soaked through but we still managed to clock up about 40kms.
J: It didn't even start to rain until 13:30 and only lasted an hour..... Buckets did come down in that hour though lol. I thought it was great fun singing as we biked past everyone sheltering from the rain.
