S: James had hurt his foot some how in Buenos Aires so when we arrived I went in search of a hostel. We had decided that we would splash out and get a private room so James could rest in peace. We had a chilled out day reading and I went and brought food for tea and cooked a vegetarian curry. I'm sure James only said his foot was hurting to get out of cooking lol. Although we did meet a crazy local guy who kept trying to talk to us, even though we couldn't understand him lol.
J: one of the first things Sam originally dotted on the map when we were making our plans to travel was Iguazú Falls, it was the reason we travelled to the quiet town. And much to Sam's excitement we got to the national park. We walked through a small part of the rain forest and then in the distance there it was! Even from the distance we first saw just part of the falls it looked large. The route we were walking took us past a couple of the smaller falls there; in total there's over 270 individual water falls in the national park, but really only 2 counts to most visitors. We kept walking and then we could see the both sides of the Iguazú falls and they were huge. They are not the highest water falls but they are wide. We got to the bottom getting ready to get a little closer.
S: we decided to pay a little extra for a boat ride that goes to both sides of the falls. We got on the boat full of excitement and fully prepared to get wet!! That was an under statement lol. They literally put the boat under one of the falls on the Brazilian side and then take you to a much bigger fall on the Argentinean side. James was having a whale of a time, unfortunately for me not so much as a full blown panic attack took over, which James had recorded. I was very relieved when we got back to land and could finally breathe normally. James's foot was still playing him up so we took it easy and stopped for lunch. We had been warned about the coatis. These are animals that will steal your food if your not on the ball and give you a nasty bite. We had one scavenging around us but we did scare it off as there was a family next to us. We then walked back to do the walk around the top of the waterfalls and it was beautiful to see them all. I was loving every moment apart from the boat ride lol. We couldn't go all the way along unfortunately but we got some brilliant pictures. Next we got the train to the Devils Mouth.
J: We saved the best for last. We had to walk 1km on a walk way over the river to the Devils Mouth Fall, the water spray could be seen from a distance and the sound just kept getting louder. Then the walk way opened up and we were then standing so close to the fall we were getting wet from the spray. It was huge, truly impressive, again Mother Nature had us stunned into silence for a few minutes.
S: it was magnificent to watch, I was so pleased we had made it. We stood there for at least 20 minutes just taking it all in, watching the water cascade in all its glory. We left just as the heavens started to open. It had been a great day for something that had started as a dot on map.
S: Argentina has been a fantastic country to visit with lots of surprises along the way. The culture itself is very metropolitan and that could be due to European immigrants finding their way here. The country has been the most expensive we have visited in eleven months and has certainly taken its toll on our budget, but having said that. We wouldn't change anything that we have done.
Being English has had its moments and challenges. We have had to chose our timings to admit our nationality as there is still very strong feelings about the Falklands around the country.
