Hey everyone, its Nic
Wow what a few weeks, internet is scarce here so getting the blog done regularly is difficult so we have split them up and doing a few at once.
We left the Cameron Highlands for the Perhentian's on a minibus for 11 people and it was full so was very cramped to say the least, the only other English travellers were the ones that whinged and moaned the whole journey, rather annoying but we got to the jetty eventually. Though I did wonder if we would ever get there as the driver must have been a new employee who did not have a clue of where he was going, we had to point him in the right direction a few times as we could read the signs better than he could. He nearly ploughed into the same vehicle twice which was a bit hairy to say the least. We boarded the boat which dropped us at different places around the two islands as there are no roads on the islands.
We got off at Paradise island on the big island and booked into a resort called watercolours renowoned for its good dive center. As soon as we arrived we saw a huge monitor lizzard just strolling through the gardens, and also a big black monkey sitting in a tree just watching us.
The following morning we hired a Kayak, where we paddled round part of the island to a private secluded beach, it was hard work in the sun but was worth it as the water was clear and the beach was stunning, it was pure paradise, we played in the sea and sun bathed for a bit before we paddled back for food. I think we both suffered a bit of sunstroke that day so we stayed clear of the sun after that.
We did a scuba refresher course where we went over all of the dive skills we had forgotten from doing our PADI's 5 years ago, thats it we were hooked back on it once again. We did another 2 dives after that and as we were partnered up with an experienced diving tourist who wanted to see lots of fish, we were taken to the best dive site in the area called the temple of the sea. Straight away we saw some massive grouper fish, a giant turtle, some bamboo sharks, Moray Eels and many many more. Was amazing, but Graham uses his air up really fast and had to surface 20 mins before me on both dives. He did some snorkelling on the surface though so he was happy.
Snorkelling here in the corals is just as good as diving really, its great to see all the fish feeding and surrounding you so close to the shore.
Next up Taman Negara.
