If I recall our last blog left us crossing the channel on our way back to the Mother Land. It's all starting to seem so long ago.
Scotland. We started in Glasgow.Despite what we'd been told about Glasgow being an ugly boring town, we fell in love.Maybe because it was small and reminded us a bit of home, maybe because the shopping was good (yes it always comes back to shopping), but maybe it was because the people were so friendly. If there is an award for friendliest people, then the Scottish should win. After spending so living in London we'd almost forgotten what it was like to be smiled at by a stranger or to make small talk with a shop assistant.Scotland was like a breath of fresh air.
Freezing cold, fresh air.Driving north we were glad to be rid of public transport and back in the cosy comfort of a car. This feeling was not felt more strongly as Duncan sprayed the windscreen to clean it only to have the water turn to ice…….. Brrrrrrr.Due to Duncan catching some Parisian stomach bug our days in Scotland where slow place.Filled with driving through the gorgeous countryside, reading by open fires and eating delicious food (well for me anyway). Not such a bad way to spend the last few days of our holiday.
The last week of our time in the Northern Hemisphere found us back at 'home' in London.Strangely it was like going home.I think it wasn't until then that it hit us, that this was it.We had 7 days to make the most of London before we migrated south for the winter.
So I did what I always do, shopped. Then I shopped some more, and finally I finished off our last day with some shopping. There were the obligatory farewell drinks (which for me produced one of the worst hangovers I've ever had), the last meals at favorite restaurants.
It was with some sadness that we said farewell to London Town.It was like leaving a party when you're tired but still having fun. You're happy enough to be heading home but do so with regret of what you'll be missing. For us thought the call of the Great Southern Land was strong and the knowledge that London won't be going anywhere and we can always return meant that whilst we were sad to leave we were also very excited to be heading home.
For Duncan that excitement lasted until the golf course in Bicheno where he received a pounding by his Dad, not once but twice!- I wouldn't get too excited though David, I suspect he'll be back in form in a game or two and you'll be handing back that cash with interest!!!
For me it was until I went shopping in Melbourne.Or tried to go shopping. Is it too much to go on Shopping weekends in London???????
So this is the end of our world travels…………. for now. We're already planning a trip to Malaysia next year.
Lots of people have asked me if I'm going to continue with the Blog now that we're back in Australia.I'm glad that everyone has enjoyed my ramblings and perhaps when anything worth writing about happens I'll dust of the Blog again.Stay Tuned…………
P.S I promise to get the photos up soon.
