SAWADEEKA from Koh Phi Phi! Since my last blog entry I went to see Angkor Wat at sunrise which was beautiful. I didn't realise how many Angkor ruins there are, and in the few days we were there we only saw a small fraction of them, including a jungle village where there were ruins of a village which had been broken up by huge roots. Before we left Siam Reap we also went to a floating village in the biggest lake in South East Asia (I've forgotten its name) where there were hundreds of floating houses, a floating school, floating basketball pitch, and best of all, a floating bar! This had crocodiles in it, and also a python which the bar staff cottoned on to how much I was scared of it and started playing jokes on me!
After Siam Reap we had a long bumpy bus ride back to Bangkok, with a big faff at the border crossing. Before our farewell meal I went to surprise Moore at her hotel, she had arrived in Bangers that morning! We hung around in Bangkok for a couple of days and I met my old group (the favorites) after their farewell meal. I managed to persuade Elaina to come for a drink with us too! We were all sat on a street bar on the road next to Khoasan and all of a sudden an elephant came walking down the street (as they do)! Afterwards we went to a thai club on khoasan road which was crazy and loads of fun!
The next day we got a night bus to Surathani then a boat to Koh Samui. I say a nightbus, but actually mean a series of unorganised buses which we had to get on and off throughout the night never knowing quite what was going on! At one point we were sat waiting at a restuarant then me and moore must have drifted off to sleep because the next thing we knew a guy woke us up saying the next bus hadn't come but a truck had arrived to take us to our next bus stop! We got there eventually! In Koh Samui we made friends with some firedancers and they taught us how to fire dance! Me and moore also had a thai massage which was hillarious because they did it in synchrony and kept doing claps at the same time (we pissed ourselves the first time)! Mine climbed onto my back at one point and knelt on all my pressure point, then at the end they sat us up and punched our backs like they were thai boxers, haha! I slept well that night! With the island in general, I was pretty disapointed...it had no atmosphere about it and the main town was just stretched over one really long trashy road. I was wondering what I'd let myself in for...
...until we got to KOH PHANGAN!!! This was so much nicer, we stayed in Haad rin which was spread out in more of a small village and had a really good vibe. Our hotel staff were legends- we kept finding spiders and cockroaches in our room and having spack attacks (normally grant would step in at this point and sort us out) and they came and saved us everytime! They were so cute, although due to their lack of english we never really got passed the words 'no spiders?' with them, haha. We met up with Norway and Jay one night and watched a huge fire skipping rope on the beach...so dangerous (I'll stick with the fire dancing)! We also met some Chileans which we kept high fiving because we were so excited to meet someone from South America, and my spanish came flooding back of course (much to moore's annoyance)! The climax of Koh Phangan was the FULL MOON PARTY, where we got arty with some warrior paint and got on the buckets, and made it out till sunrise which was quality!
We were sad to leave Koh Phangan - so sad we even delayed our ticket to Phi Phi even though haad rin was like a ghost town and almost everyone had left! But we arrived in Phi Phi yesterday and we love it here too but in a different way. It's a lot quiter and there are no cars or motorbikes, just pushbikes. It's touristy but there are still loads of locals. The beach is a lot different and the tide goes out loads in the afternoon. It's a lot smaller so I can't do my beach walks the same, so we may have to get a bat and ball to play with instead. We've found a really good bar on a roof terrace which plays 42s music, woooo. Moore's got a cold at the moment so as soon as she's recovered we'll be returning there! There's a lot of blacktip sharks around the island and you can go snorkelling with them at sunrise or sunset, I really want to do it if I can hire a wet suit from somewhere.
Anyway the internet's closing now, I've been writing this for way too long. I can't believe I've not even covered food! Will update this again soon. Laa korn for now!!!
