Hi everyone,
Since I last wrote in Singapore, we visited Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia for about a week. We filled our days looking around street markets where there were always bargains to be had, as well as checking out some of the cultural buildings like huge mosques, government houses and the famous Petronas towers, which are now the tallest twin towers in the world. We visited the world's largest walk through bird park too, which was pretty cool mainly because we saw dozens of wild monkeys running around us. At one point they all ran over to a childrens play area and were going down the slides, it was very amusing. Shame there were no monkey bars though!! We both have mixed feelings about our time in Malaysia. We enjoyed the things we did, but in our experience its not the best place to go if you are a Western woman. The way some local people treat you can be upsetting and just puts a negative spin on your time. Still glad we went though.
We are currently on the gorgeous island of Phuket in Thailand. We have been here for around a week and a half and have absolutely loved every second of it. The weather has been phenomenal and we were able to stay in a very nice hotel, which has 2 massive lagoon pools and places to relax. We have spent our days relaxing mostly by the pool and playing water tennis (its all the Wimbledon we have been watching in our evenings). Last week however, we took a speed boat trip to Ko Phi Phi and various other isalnds around here. We visited Maya bay, which is where the movie The Beach, with Leonardo DiCaprio was filmed. Sadly he was not there, but about a million other tourists were. Its was still beautiful though. We then went to a place called Monkey Beach, where there were lots of mischevious wild monkeys. We fed them paenuts and were lucky enough to see a baby monkey with its mother. There was one monkey who swang down from the trees and stole a glass of pepsi out of someones hand. I got film of him drinking it. After this, we snorkelled at 2 seperate locations which was amazing. We took some banana in with us and had hundreds of fish swimming around us all the time after the banana. We had to be quite careful snorkelling though, as there were many speed boats and shallow waters with sea urchins under us. We had a fantastic time that day and saw some gorgeous scenery.
We are off to Bangkok tomorrow for the last part of our Thai experience. Has been wonderful so far x
