Day 2 - had the most amazing day in this fantastic city. Went to the mausoleum of Ho Chi Minh which was very moving - a whole country queuing up for hours to see a dead man they respect and admire. Then had a cyclo ride around the Old Quarter of Hanoi which was mind blowing - a place full of smells and colour and life - some of it upsetting but basically vibrant and alive - I will never forget that hour of my life. Then went to the Hanoi Hilton pow prison - thought provoking and made me want to read up on the history of the Vietnamese - they have been subjected to cruelty and barbarity by the French and then bombed ruthlessly by the Americans. Came away from there feeling moved and humble - very thought provoking. On a lighter note had a fab dinner and lots of drinks with a wonderful bunch of people who I have become very close to in the last 48 hours. It's now 12.30am and I have to pack my case and be up in 6 hours to go to Halong bay aaaaaaaargh!!! See you tomorrow x
