Arrived in Hue after a long 12 hour train journey....we left hanoi train station on a sleeper train at 11:00pm...this way we could save money on a nights accomodation and sleep on the train. The cabins of the train slept 6 people in total 3 bunk beds at one side and 3 at the other, the cabins were rather small and the beds were really uncomfortable but ok for the money we paid. I happened to get the middle bunk where there was 2 cockroaches roaming about on them......nearly crying i had to squash them while the others just laughed at me!!!!!
Once we arrived at Hue station we were greated my many Viatnamese people trying to take us to thier hotels, offering us taxis etc....we decided not to look at thier hotels and picked one out of the Lonely Planet Guide book. The Viatnamese people dont give up tho....even the taxi man was trying to take us to a hotel that he knows but we didnt give in....i think they get some kind of commision for taking people to certain hotels.
First impressions of Hue was that it seemed a nice little town, large river running right the way through which you can get on a dragon boat accross....but the main thing we noticed that many of the shops were selling waterproof ponchos and umbrellas....definately not a good sign of the weather to come!!!!!
The first and second day wasnt too bad but the last day we were there the heavens opened and the torrential rain started!!!!!! Luckily we were leaving that night but we had to pay for nother nights accomodation so at least we had somewhere dry and was able to watch films all day!
That night we left on another sleeper train to a more holiday type resort called Nha Trang....we were promised by people that this is where the sun is hiding...so we set off with fingers crossed we'd get some good weather and nice beaches here!
