At last we could ditch the doona jackets and put on our thongs... Finally some good old Vitamin D (sunburn). Except no one told us that it rains a lot in Sydney and in fact the whole of the East Coast in December time (something about the tropics...).
Not that we were complaining. We've spent the last two weeks in absolute luxury with the Davis ensemble for the wedding of the lovely Janine to her Aussie man Greg. The run up to the wedding was spent with the girlies sipping pink champers at a fancy hotel, Stu doing a masterful job with all the stationary, menus, place settings etc, the Bondi beach house becoming a floral cottage industry that would make Interflora proud, oh and the odd Baywatch jog along the beach in the glorious sunshine. The morning of the marriage came... along with a bit of English weather. Well, if the wedding couldn't take place in England, we thought we'd bring a bit with us. And not just a bit, but a raging windy wet load of it. And whilst some Bridezillas would have a major freak out, Janine just beamed and laughed throughout the whole thing (oh did we mention the wedding was outside?) even when her dress started to mop up the flooded floor and even when the flowers decided to come crashing down off their stands just as it was announced 'I know pronounce you...'. The stars of the show were most certainly Greg with his guitar and Geoff and Sian on the dancefloor (Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers eat your heart out).
With the newly weds packed off on their honeymoon, we've been filling our days cruising around the harbour, kayaking around the harbour and flying above the harbour and on it in a wicked sea plane. There's something pretty awesome about a city on the water. We also spent a day in the Blue Mountains, strangely where lots of GollyWogs (don't know if they have a PC name) are on sale. Also had a lovely evening having a 10-year catch up with Mandy and drinks with not-so-Welsh-bit-of-an-Aussie-twang Cally B in Bondi.
We finished off our time in Sydney with Christmas Day. Soooo not the same. And what with England having the most snow ever, hmmm it did make me feel a bit homesick. Still, when it started raining and didn't stop all afternoon whilst opening our presents, it felt a little bit like home...
