The next few blogs are all a bit late..so probably won't remember much but the basics are there. hopefully.
I got to LAX after the worst flight EVER. It was a looong 12 hours from Auckland (which included a 5 hour stop over and a 3 hour flight in from Fiji), I couldn't sleep as per usual, and the woman 2 rows infront to the side was violently puking up the whoooole time. It was disgusting, seriously, could she not go to the toilet at least?? The noise..the smell...by travel pillow was used as an ear and nose protector for the majority of the time. Ick. The American ladies next to me were quite funny though, they'd run to the back of the plane everytime she began to heave!
Eventually we got there but had to wait for a while whilst the paramedics sorted this lady out..then I made my way to the disney shuttle bus to Anaheim. I got dropped off a short walk from my motel and was sooo chuffed with the room! MY OWN ROOM! A TV! A NICE BATHROOM! And most importantly, aircon. I also noticed a Denny's nearby and HAD to have dinner there as a mark of respect as Katie and I had much, much, drunken fun there at 3am whilst in Florida. The three F's!!
That night I met up with a friend and we went to Downtown Disney for a bite to eat and some drinks. It was a cool place but not at all as good as Downtown disney in Florida, me and Katie had the BEST nights there but there isnt even one club in this place! I was hoping that Disneyland also didn't disappoint..
But I was wrong :( What a dump compared to Disneyworld! It was still cool..the rides were sweet but the castle frickin stank. It's like the size of my house! But I was still very happy at the end of the day because I got my photo taken with Mickey. Ledge.
Probably the best part of the day was whilst I was waiting for the parade to start. A family sat down next to me and I noticed the burly looking Dad had loads of tattoos. Bored, I started to have a peek out of the corner of my eye (sly, very sly). I had to take a full on look when I realised there were tattoos of Snow White, Cinderella, Doc, the Disney Castle and Donald frickin Duck! WHAT! w***er.
That evening I got a slice of pizza from a takeout for dinner and there was a sign saying: WE ARE NOT SERVING TOMATOS BECAUSE OF THE PLAGUE. Riiight..was a bit worried eating this cheese and tomato slice in case I suddenly woke up with black sores all over me and a red cross on my motel door.
Luckily I woke up fine, and made my way to the greyhound terminal to board a bus to Las Vegas. I'd been warned about this area and it was justified! Full of crazies. But then I saw two Buddhist Monks! WHAT?? LA is a strange place.
The bus journey was long but ok and I eventually arrived at the Luxor, a treat from ma&pa, aww. But the t*** at check in wouldnt let me have the room as I couldn't show them mother dearests credit card DESPITE the fact that she told the booking people that it would be me turning up, not her. ARGH! They were very rude and I ended up paying for it on the ol' trusty credit card. b******os. But the room was very cool and it was great staying on the strip in a lovely air conditioned hotel. The hottest it got was 116 degrees..lowest about 105 and that was at night! When the wind blew it was like having a massive hairdryer blow all over you. Disgusting! Apart from one taxi ride, I walked everywhere as you can nip through the hotels which is handy. The reason I took one taxi ride was because I refused to get another one after a conversation I had with the driver:
Driver: So, you're from England huh?
Me: Yep
Driver: That's up by the arctic right?
Me: *Confused, disgusted, shocked look on face* Errr...yeah. We have one hour of sunlight a day and the polar bears are a pain in the arse.
Driver: Man, I bet!
Utterly, utterly mindboggling.
I went to the Cirque de Soleil Beatles 'Love' show at the Mirage which was BRILLIANT!!! So good and worth every penny. Swear I was sat next to a group of prossies, they must've had a profitable night previously. Speaking of w****s, everyone in Vegas is dressed like one it's fab!
I annoyingly had to fly back out of La to NYC so I got the bus back (looong) and stayed overnight in a hotel near LAX called Custom - it was SO GOOD. Flat screen telly pinned to the wall, an iPod dock, amazing bed, really modern furniture..I was so annoyed I was only there for a few hours at that but hey. I got myself up at 3am to get there in time for my 6.30am flight to NYC.
The stupid taxi driver dropped me off at the wrong terminal, and then the queue for Delta flights was SO BLOODY LONG, there are a mountain of checks, (did you know in america they don't check your bags in when you do, you have to take them to another queue! ridiculous!!) and they inspect everything soooo slowly and have a look of pure evil upon their faces. God knows what they'd do if you presented them an Iraqi or Afghani passport!
After getting my flight with a few minutes to spare, I prepared myself for a boring 5 hour flight (no tv!) which ended up being 6.5 hours as we had to sit on the JFK terminal for an hour an half whilst the clever americans decided which gate we could get out at.
I eventually got to my hostel which was literally a 20 second walk from Times Square. This I found exciting at first, but by the end of the day I wanted to punch all the tourists, even though I was one. IDIOTS. Seriously! Just as bad as the yanks themselves..or yank taxi drivers anyway. Basically I was fed up of being a tourist, and having been before with Dad, I didn't bother with any of the typical stuff, statue of liberty etc, and just went shopping as the exchange rate is pretty good. Got some nice clothes and an iPod touch! Whoops. But it's swweeeeeet as.
After a long flight I arrived home early friday morning to be greeted by mum and dad which was really nice. Mum was a ledge and brought me my favourite sandwhich which I'd been craving as breakfast sausage cannot be bought anywhere outside Sainsburys in the UK it seems!
Very, very odd being home but also feels like I never left. Until I walked into a pub in Redhill on Saturday night and literally became stone cold sober and depressed...same scummy people, same dirty beer, same same but definitely not different :( - i miss se asia. Luckily we have Reigate, and London ;) ....and of course, Canada!...the blog will resume there in (hopefully) 2 months time.
Til then, it's been pretty bloody fantastic.
