We have had such a good week. Left the Cameron Highlands and went to Kuala Lumpur. Journey was fine, especially the 80's mixed tape the driver was blasting out. Bit surreal zooming round mountain corners with George Michael singing away! Was so good to get to Kuala Lumpur. After 5weeks of rice we were dying for some western food and it had loads of it in Kuala Lumpur, even went to Nando's. We were there about 4 days. Walked around about a thousand shopping malls which all had about 9 floors each in then. Saw the Petronas towers which were pretty impressive. We even got up at 6.30 in the morning to get some tickets to walk between the two towers. We raced there and when there wasn't a que we thought we were first in line until we saw the sign that said, 'closed Mondays,' and yes it was a Monday. What a stupid day for something to be closed! This has been a common theme in Malaysia, thngs being closed on random days and us turning up on that day to see it. It was our last day so did'nt get to go on the bridge but consoled ourselves by going to the donut cafe for breakfast. We did go up the tv tower though which was much higher anyway and really good. We went up when it was light and stayed until the sun had set so saw Kuala Lumpur at night too. Also went to this huge park on the outskirts of the city and went into the museum of Malaysia that was there. Mainly for the air conditioning because we were so hot but it was quite good actually. So hard to get anywhere in Kuala Lumpur because of the traffic, it is manic. Sometimes it took us so long to cross a road that we forgot we were trying to cross and ended up in a conversation before realising we hadn't moved for ten minutes. We went to the pics and saw Harry Potter, which was good because it came and the day we left and we really wanted to see it.. Went to the big Chinatown for food and drinks and then on the last night found a minature version near our hostel where the food was so much cheaper and nicer! Cost about a pound for a main meal and the chicken rice came with a roast chicken on the side. We spent a lot of time watching rain, rained more than in England! When we weren't shopping or seeing sights we were eating, especially cake, so much nice cake in Kuala Lumpur. Our accomodation was really good apart from the bedbugs. Toyah had seen some throughout time there then when I pulled my sheet off on last day there were loads and they were huge (for bedbugs). Didn't itch until we got to next place now I have horrible rash all over legs. Toyah ok at moment. We also had some strange goings on with our room mates. We were only in a four person dorm but during our stay 4 people came and only one stayed the night. The rest seemed to take one look at us and never returned! One even arrived a 2.30 at night and didn't sleep in the bed. By the end we were starting to get a bit paranoid that it was us. Maybe they saw the bedbugs and left, not hardcore like us! Anyway Kuala Lumpar was ace.
We then moved on to melaka, a town about 2 hours south of Kuala Lumpur. Really pretty and quiet compared to Kuala Lumpur. Just stayed there a couple of days and visited all the sights and museums and stuff. On the first day we paid to get in to what we thought was one museum and just as we thought we had finished up pooped another one and another.... in the end we had to leave because we were weak from hunger. We saw other museums and did some shopping in the afternoon. We have been to so many Chinatowns but this one was by far the best, so many nice shops and cafes and stuff. Only thing it all closed up at night during the week which was a shame because it looked really good with all red lanterns everywhere and would have been good atmosphere. We went to the pics again because it started hammering it down for ages and only cost a pound. The second day we visited the maritime museum and the worst replica of a ship ever. Walked around Melaka a lot more. We wanted to visit these villas that were meant to be really nice but when we got there the bridge that was on the map was being built so we couldnt actually get to them and it was so far to the next one so we admired them from a distance. Had a good curry when we there too. We didn't understand a word of the menu so we said medium chicken and the waiter brought all this Indian food out which was all good. I've just noticed how much I have talked about food in this blog, it has been a reoccurring topic the last week!
We arrived in Singapore today which seems really cool. Got three days here then flying to Oz. So excited. Hoping to get some photos on facebook soon but we are having some issues with the memory sticks at moment, hopefully soon though. Lots of love Toyah and Katiexxxxxxxxxxx
