Katie's Adventures
So I am a week into my second Intrepid Tour and it has been fun - laughed so much! First stop was Mission Beach where we spent both nights pretty drunk. The second night we went for a couple of beers that ended at 3.30am on the beach with some builders singing with a guitar - so hungover the next day! Next stop was Airlie Beach and it was a good 10 hour day. We arrived early evening and had a quiet one as we were up early Saturday sailing around the Whitsunday Islands. The boat we went on was the Ragamuffin that has one the Sydney to Hobart race a few times. We sailed to an island 2 hours from Airlie Beach and were taken to shore in a speed boat for snorkelling. It was quite shallow and a nightmare getting from the beach to the water in flippers! Never laughed so much! We all got coral cuts where the water was quite shallow so decided to get out as we were bleeding and didn't want to attract sharks! On the way back to Airlie Beach we saw another whale on the horizon jumping in and out of the water - the weather was perfect and it was nice sat there with a VB (Victorian Bitter, yummy) and beautiful scenery!
Next stop was the Cattle Station, the nearest station was 35km and we were literally in the middle of nowhere! No mobile signal or TVs! We stayed in cabins the first night and had a go on the Buckin Bronco - I last 3 goes, but hurt my ankle - those things are bloody hard! Up early Monday morning for 7am breakfast and the other guys were horse riding and mustering a herd of cows - cos of my allergy I followed with our tour leader in a 4wd and dosed up on allergy tablets! The farm we stayed on was good, they owned 10,000 acres and most of their staff have stopped off on the Oz Experience Bus and not left! Trudie was wicked, she was from Devon and was meant to stay a day and two months later is still there. We camped out last night in the open bush in Swags (sleeping bags with matresses and pillows inside). We cooked steaks for dinner and sat chatting and drinking - I got through 6 cans of VB before passing out. It was quite dark apart from the camp fire. Woke up at 4am wheezing as I've had a horrible cold!! Was scared about looking up incase I saw a wild animal so managed to get back to sleep until 6.45am. It was freezing!!! It was amazing last night, the sky was beautiful, full of stars and we saw the Milky Way. Clear blue when I woke this morning. Andrew, the guy from the farm that looked after us is one of the funniest ment I have ever met, a true Australian!!
Today we are in Hervey Bay. Am heading to Fraser Island tomorrow for one night and then back to Hervey Bay again on Thursday night. Going whale watching on Friday and I cannot wait! x x x x x
