Heya Guys,
Again sorry for the delay......just on the move constantly. Well we spent two days in Udaipur (the Venice of the east) and for one it definately lives up to its nickname. After a relaxing rehab in Pushkar we arrived in Udaipur after a five hour bumpy drive. It took us a good while to find a decent hotel, the first one our driver took us to was ridiculously overpriced with s*** up the walls and muck over the pillows.......I dont think so!!!!! We finally arrived at the 'Udai Niwas' and lee went on in to do all the haggling.....ten minutes later he came out of the building full of smiles, he found a cleaner than clean room, a rooftop bar, and MEAT!!! (after the rehab of pushkar it was a seller!). He managed to get the room for half the price that they was asking, even though it was probably worth the asking price. Our first afternoon in Udaipur was fantastic, we drank beer and ate loads on the rooftop overlooking the moutains and of course Lake Pichola. Our first night was fairly quiet, we ate at a lakeside cafe by candle light, although the romance died off slightly as Kate had a case of the Delhi belly and the only toilet near, was a squat toilet with no loo roll or light!!! Haha!
Our Second day was slightly more active, we went to the City Palace, the largest Rajasthani Royal Complex. What most appealed was the fact that there was a small display in the armoury room of different bullets used in the wars......... made in Birmingham and London.......typical! So at least a small claim to fame. We later took a walk to try and catch a boat around the lake, but ended up trapped eating at the roadside with lots of Indian men....'do you want a bit of fly with your lunch?'. We ended up missing the boat so went to the cable cars (dodgy as hell) up in the Mountains to watch the sun set, where we met a loveley couple from Brighton. After the sun set (which was beautiful) we raced down with Billy and Lindsey to catch the traditional arts and dance show at the Bagore-Ki-Haveli...home of the worlds biggest turban! The show was a bit strange at first but later got great.( see the pics of the oldish woman balancing ten pots on her head).
Later on after the show we went for some food and came across a brilliant little cafe place playing reggae..... so as you can imagine we felt right at home. We noticed on the menu the 'special lassi's' and thought sod it! When in rome, and turned out to be delightful...but not the taste. The guy who owned the bar stayed open quite late and we had to wake up our hotel owner as we got locked out haha! He was not impressed.
All in all Udaipur was cracking, just wish we could have stayed there slightly longer as we didn't get to see everything on offer. Next stop Jodhpur to do some serious shopping!
With love from Kate and Lee, Udaipur, India
